As for the TV coverage, I think ITV has the better pundits but BBC wins on commentary by a long way so unless ITV pull Matterface and Dixon and go with Tyldesley and McCoist, it will be BBC for me.

Tyldesley's screeching is every bit as irritating as Matterface's drivel. However good or otherwise ITV's pundits might be, why spend 15 minutes listening to two minutes of what they have to say in the small section that interrupts all the adverts?

The other ITV annoyance is the atmosphere-killing ad break between the anthems and kickoff. It meant England presenting a shirt to Denmark for Christian Eriksen wasn't shown last night.

I hate the bloody adverts, BBC every time for me, unless Pearce is on as he annoys me by liking the sound of his own voice too much! Can you believe I'll be watching it with an Italian! Mamma mia, someone will be upset by the end of the evening!

At least Jonathan Pearce has been relegated to BBC's third choice now behind Guy Mowbray and Steve Wilson. Going back to Tyldesley, one of the non-football highlights of the tournament was him spoiling the result of the World's Strongest Man competition, as it's not shown on TV here until Christmas.

Random fact: the last 4 men's Euros tournaments that England have qualified for have seen them come from behind to win a match (vs Croatia in 2004, Sweden in 2012, Wales in 2016, and Denmark in 2020/2021). For the last time England managed this in a (men's) World Cup, I believe you have to go as far back as Cameroon in 1990. There have also been 2 occasions (vs Argentina in 1998 and Romania in 2000) where England came from behind to lead, but did not ultimately win.

Jonathan Pearce is easily the worst of the BBC commentators. He operates as if he is being paid by the word.

I suspect they're quite close together but I don't think the sound will be a problem. Commentators for big games usually have commentators from other countries very close by but you never hear them as the microphones block out most of the external noise. I was thinking more with the build up at the start when there's less of a crowd in the stadium and, to a lesser extent, at half time during the analysis.
As you say, I'm sure it won't be a problem with a capacity crowd.

I've always preferred watching on BBC when a match is on both channels. It's consistently had better commentary in my view. I'll be watching in a pub anyway, so might not hear much!

Minute of the first goal in European Championship finals:
* = team went on to lift the trophy
1960: 43 (Yugoslavia v USSR) 1964: 6* (Spain v USSR) 1968: 39 (Yugoslavia v Italy) 1968 (replay): 12* (Italy v Yugoslavia) 1972: 27* (West Germany v USSR) 1976: 8* (Czechoslovakia v West Germany) 1980: 10* (West Germany v Belgium) 1984: 57* (France v Spain) 1988: 32* (Netherlands v USSR) 1992: 18* (Denmark v Germany) 1996: 59 (Czech Republic v Germany) 2000: 55 (Italy v France) 2004: 57* (Greece v Portugal) 2008: 33* (Spain v Germany) 2012: 14* (Spain v Italy) 2016: 109* (Portugal v France)
Not counting the replay in 1968, the team scoring first in the final has gone on to lift the trophy 11 times out of 15.
2000 was the last final in which both teams scored.

My aunty Pat gave me some St George Poppies last autumn, I scattered the seeds in a couple of troughs earlier this spring, and they started to grow, the first one flowered last week, and was dark blue and red like my other poppies. However when I went out yesterday, all the rest are coming and are flowering with St George Crosses on! Now if that isn't a sign I dont know what is! And if my phone will let me I'll post up a picture! edit - They are actually Victoria Cross Poppies, or as I like to call them an inverted St George's Cross

Congratulations to Italy, they were the better team for large parts of the game. It wasn't a great performance by England though to be honest it wasn't a very good game, at least from a England point of view.

Italy were the better team. England were up against a world class team for the first time in the tournament and didn't have an answer once Italy started dominating possession - something England have done throughout the tournament. England were the better side in extra time but didn't create enough all night.
But it's been a great tournament for England, on and off the pitch. This team play with pride. They have the right mentality. And they have enough quality to keep improving.

Congratulations to Italy - a perfect way to bounce back from not qualifying for the last World Cup!
Italy's victory does mean that Greece (in 2004) are still the most recent European champions not to require a penalty shoot-out in any of their knock-out games.

Absolutely gutting for England but in the end, a deserved congratulations to Italy. It wasn't the most enjoyable game to watch but redemption to what happened 5 years ago. Well done boys!
