That was excruciating.
Not the football. England were completely in control from 70 minutes onwards.
Matterface and Dixon. Awful. Absolutely awful.
I haven't watched enough of Italy to know whether they have any players who are challenging Raheem Sterling as player of the tournament. Another superb performance today from Kalvin Phillips, Luke Shaw and Declan Rice, whilst Stones and Maguire look like the most assured partnership at central back I can remember.

Agree about Matterface and Dixon. The low point for me was Matterface comparing the substitutions to "an NFL basketball timeout".
At least the final is on BBC as well.
As for the game... Lucky with the penalty but England absolutely deserved to win.

Matterface is dreadful. The implication that the UK (or just England) is the only country to have had a tough 16 months is just pure Tory-style exceptionalism.

Gary Nevilles's dig at Johnson, though, was hilarious!

Superb and nail-biting, but not with the usual finish!

Harry Kane ties Gary Lineker as England's all-time top scorer in tournaments with 10.
England's first goal was the third own goal scored in their favour at a major tournament. The other two were against Czechoslovakia in 1982 and Paraguay in 2006.

Great ending, long time coming, and well deserved.
And I shall be watching the final on BBC1, the commentary on ITV is awful and cringe worthy and the ITV pundits are a bit of a wet fish, I just wish someone slaps one across Roy Keane's face.
Looking forward to the final, not sure how far England will go as Italy are the favourites and their record of winning games has been very good. I'm hoping for a England win

Brilliant result! Thought we were slightly fortunate with the penalty in extra time but it was justified as I thought we should have had one earlier in the match with Kane.
Denmark's goal was superb though. If there was a negative point tonight, Pickford seems more a liability in goal.
Some more Matterface quotes: - "That's a yellow card for the England Captain..." (yellow card was for Harry Maguire) "Harry Kane...to win it" (Running on goal whilst England was 2-1 ahead) Using him as an excuse to stay up late/come in late for work tomorrow.

The earlier penalty claim with Kane wasn't given because he was adjudged to have committed a foul when he won possession of the ball and therefore the challenge on him just inside the box (which did look a foul) was irrelevant.

One thing that stood out tonight is how composed England were after going in front. Past England teams leading matches in tournaments would be hanging on for dear life (remember John Terry trying to clear a low shot with a diving header against Slovenia?), just hoofing it long and waiting for the next attack but I've never seen an England team more comfortable on the ball than this one. I think the last five minutes was the most relaxed I was in the entire match.

England beat Italy 2-0 at home in the World Cup qualifying campaign for 1978, where both teams won their home games 2-0 and won all their other games, but only one team qualified, and Italy had the better goal-difference in the group. I find it strange that that qualifying campaign was such a failure for England with just one defeat and all the other games won, yet 4 years later with 4 wins 1 draw and 3 defeats we qualified and it was considered a success. Ok, I guess it was, but not really because England were much better.
We next faced Italy in Euro 1980 where they were the hosts and they beat us 1-0 with a goal by Marco Tardelli. They finished 2nd in the group behind Belgium on goals scored, and we finished 3rd with Spain bottom. (We beat Spain in the final game and Italy drew with Belgium when Italy needed to win to get to the final).
We lost to Italy in the 3rd-placed playoff in the world cup in 1990 where again they were the hosts.
In the 1998 world cup qualifiers we were again paired with them in the group. This time we lost at home 0-1 (Zola scored their goal) and drew 0-0 away but we won all the other group games and they had 2 draws, so we finished a point ahead in the group. When we played out the final 0-0 game we already knew a draw would see us through.
In Euro 2012 we met in the first round knockout and it finished 0-0 with Italy winning on penalties.
In World Cup 2014, Italy won our opening group game 2-1 but then lost their other two group games to go out, and we also went out with one defeat and one draw in the other games. Costa Rica and Uruguay qualified.
So essentially we have not beaten Italy in any of those games since the World cup qualifying campaign of 1978.
(Compare that to Germany, who we had beaten in 2000 and also the WC qualifies of 2002, so whilst they had beaten us a few times, we did have some recent memory of beating them).

With the final being on both BBC and ITV on Sunday, I'm trying to work out if the respective studios are next to each other at Wembley. It could get annoying hearing each other broadcasts should that be the case...

I suspect they're quite close together but I don't think the sound will be a problem. Commentators for big games usually have commentators from other countries very close by but you never hear them as the microphones block out most of the external noise.
