I hope that is true, but they erected a barrier around him, so not sure how people have got pictures of him conscious. Muamba's heart stopped for 78 minutes and he survived, so we have to hope for the same here. I wont mention the P word that everyone is bandying about because I'm not American.

Thankfully, it looks like it isn't as serious as we all feared. Most of the acmera work was respectful but they shouldn't have shown Eriksen's wife. That said, the BBC should have returned to the studio (or ended the broadcast altogether) sooner.

Interesting discussion on England. Back in 2018 inspired by a certain 1990 thread on here, going into the tournament I started dreaming of reaching the semis (and think that built as the tournament went on) as I'd never seen us reach the World Cup semis before. Wasn't into football when Italia 90 was on and have no memory of it.
This time I'm more philosophical about it. Just get out of the group and take it from there. The main interest for me is that the tournament is taking place with fans, matches are being played in the UK and there's a few home nations to root for (also interested in one of the other cities hosting matches too). And if it all ends in tears then Wimbledon is back! Always find it annoying that always clashes with a major tournament...apart from next year of course!

And obviously not good at all to hear about Eriksen (though only seeing highlights of non home nations games, and prob not every day, only found out when someone told me). At least he appears to be stable now, as they wouldn't have resumed otherwise.

That was just devastating about Christian Eriksen, absolutely heartbreaking to watch, I just wish the commentator would have shut up stating the bleeding obvious. To be fair, what else could he say under the circumstances? I don't think JP would have wanted to commentate on the scenes and would have preferred the coverage to go back to the studio.
It's sounding increasing positive with news of Eriksen being awake and in hospital. Kudos to the Denmark players to have the courage to complete the match against Finland.

I'm no fan of Jonathan Pearce, but I thought he generally handled it well. When he was stating "the bleeding obvious", it was generally for the benefit of people who had just switched on expecting to see a football match.

Decent result for Wales. Switzerland were the better team over 90 minutes so Wales should be happy with a point and they're more than capable of beating Turkey, who were awful last night. Forgot to add thought it was only an OK result for Wales. Expected a draw beforehand and thought they needed to avoid defeat to have a chance of getting out of the group. But coming from 1-0 down in that heat and given how little they created is a positive. Didn't see the game last night but read today that will be like a home game for Turkey as the two countries have strong links. They'll have plenty of fans there and the locals are Turkey fans too so won't be easy. Feel rather sorry for Wales with the Italy game being in Rome as well that they didnt get a game in Cardiff given that it was in the running. People in Baku don't seem to be that bothered there's a tournament going on generally...

Sorry, I just wanted him to shut up, under the circumstances I'd suggest saying nothing, and yes they should have gone back to the studio straightaway and not shown us him receiving cpr. It's daft that a streaker comes on the pitch and no camera shows it, and yet a player almost dies and we focus all the cameras on it as distraught players stand around trying to shield him.

I wasn't watching live, so don't know how the coverage felt in real time. But Formula 1 and British motor sports coverage automatically cuts away from a serious crash until the tv director gets confirmation that the driver is OK, usually via the driver's on board camera or him talking to his engineer on the radio. Astonishing that football (or any other sport) doesn't take the same approach.
Delighted to hear Christian is stable and conscious. Total respect to the players of both Finland and Denmark for returning to the pitch after such a traumatic incident.

I thought Both Pearce and Keown gave the impression that they would rather be doing anything else at the time but were trying to do their job. It wasn't their decision not to go back to the studio. They had to try to keep viewers informed without being insensitive and intrusive and I think they did reasonably well.

I'm not criticising Pearce or Keown, I'm criticising the tv director at the stadium, and the BBC's director in the studio. It is they who behaved like motorway rubberneckers. It is rarer in football than F1, but not unpredictable. Earlier this season in the Premier League Raul Jiminez fractured his skull in an incident which was similarly life threatening. So, even if you ignore the Bolton incident from a decade ago, you have recent precedence from which to construct a protocol.

For the first England game in a major tournament, that was uncharacteristically successful. I thought everyone had a good game, and I was especially impressed by Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips.
Probably only need a draw against Scotland to progress into the knock-out round.
Well played the lads.

Solid performance, never looked in real danger. Have Croatia seriously regressed since 2018 or are they putting everything on getting 4 points against the Czechs and Scotland?
Phillips was MOTM for me.

3 wins in the last 12 games (Malta, Sweden and Cyprus) and the age of their attackers suggests they are in decline, Peresic 32, Modric 35, Kramaric 30 next week, 14 of their squad are over 28 and they played like it

EURO FACT OF THE DAY: Today was the sixth time in a row that England have scored the first goal in their opening game at the Euros, but the first time they've gone on to win. (Actually the first time England have ever won their first game at the Euros)
