Expected bronze in the women's hockey but given that they were 3-2 down at half time and it was 42C pitchside that was a good effort.
What a day in the athletics!
Great from Jodie Williams to finish 6th in the 400m equalling her PB she set in the semi final.
Great for Laura Muir to get silver breaking the British record in the process.
Poor first changeover in the women's sprint relay but at least we got a medal.
I was shocked that we were predicted to win gold in the men's sprint relay. Of all the athletics events the heats matter the most in the relays as they are rarely run in the rest of the year. I thought Gemeli was missed in the heats but even with him I didn't think we looked capable of getting more than a bronze. Disappointing to lose out on the line when we were leading at the last changeover but still really pleasing to get the silver.
With Jodie Williams coming in for the womens 4x400 final tomorrow I'm hoping we can get another medal there.

With the cycling medals as well today was my favourite day by far. Obviously the first women's Madison but given that they dropped the men's event after Beijing that was the first time I'd seen it. It's an odd event!

Disappointing to lose out on the line when we were leading at the last changeover but still really pleasing to get the silver. It was tight that transition on the women's sprint relay! I wasn't convinced the transition between 1st and 2nd leg was in the zone when I watched it live. I think bronze was the best they could have hoped for as the US looked comfortable in silver.
The 2nd and 3rd leg were especially brilliant for the men's relay. Love the positive team spirit too despite getting the silver. If Gemili was fit, I presume he would have ran the 3rd leg?
I've not been following the athletics as much as I used to - have the Italians always been up there in the last few years? It's surreal to see them excelling in the athletics and I struggle to name an Italian medal winning athlete from previous games.
I wonder who the favorite is for SPOTY? My money is on Adam Peaty.

I think Gemili would've run the 1st leg instead of CJ Ujah. Richard Kilty has been a key part of the team for several years and is a fantastic bend runner and a former world champion indoors over 60m, which makes him ideal for a relay. Gemili, Hughes, Kilty, Mitchell-Blake was the line-up at the last World Championships when they won silver and set a new European record.

VIRTUAL MEDAL TABLE PREDICTIONS:
Gold: none
Silver: Tom Daley
Bronze: Joe Choong
Just two medals predicted for GB on the penultimate day: an individual diving silver for Tom Daley, though he has to get through the semi-final first - something he failed to do in Rio. The other predicted medal is a bronze for Joe Choong in the modern pentathlon.
In the final night of athletics in the Olympic stadium, GB has three men in the 1500m final for the first time since 1984. Josh Kerr, Jake Wightman and Jake Heyward are all capable of getting a medal in what could be a very unpredictable race. Morgan Lake is the women's high jump final and the women's 4x400m relay team have an outside medal chance. The women's 10000m features Eilish McColgan and Jess Judd.
GB is guaranteed at least a silver in boxing Galal Yafai faces Carlo Paalam of the Philippines in the flyweight final.
In the velodrome, it would seem omnium gold medallist Matt Walls has stepped aside to allow reserve Ollie Wood to partner Ethan Hayter in the men's madision.
In the team showjumping, individual gold medallist Ben Maher is joined by Harry Charles and Holly Smith, though Sweden will take some beating - they were the only team to come through qualification with three clear rounds.

9am and we've already beaten today's prediction with a boxing gold and a Tom Daley bronze. Why on earth the prediction thought Tom could outscore either of the Chinese divers is beyond me - some of their forecasts have been baffling.
I've been watching too many events, and enjoying the majority, to post in this thread for several days.
Personal highlights this week have included:- - Crushingly dominant Cycling golds in the men's omnium (Matthew Walls) and women's Madison (Katie Archibald & Laura Kenny). - Kate French's excellent showjumping, and sensational laser run, to rise from 8th to gold in the Modern Pentathlon. - Charlotte Worthington's mind-blowing courage in the upside down BMX cycling. - Some nail-chewingly close medals in a number of sailing events. - Keely Hodgkinson and Laura Muir both surpassing almost everyone's expectations with really brave and determined middle-distance silvers. - Dina Asher-Smith coming back from the desperate disappointment of her injury (and the outrageous criticism, including some in this thread), to help her team-mates to a bronze in the relay. - The entire skateboarding park event, women and men. So much fun, played out in such an enjoyable spirit.

And now a silver in the men's Madison for Ethan Hayter and Matt Walls (who did ride it after all).

Joe Choong completes a British modern pentathlon double, Josh Kerr wins bronze in the 1500m with a super fast time.
GB now has 63 medals, just 4 short of the 2016 total and 2 short of 2012, with a guaranteed medal to come tomorrow.

Didn't expect a medal in the 1500m, especially someone who wasn't our no 1 who I hadn't heard of before! And getting the bronze with a PB! Staggering stuff.
Really disappointing that the women's 4x400m team finished 5th, but probably wishful thinking that they could get a medal. They were the 4th fastest qualifiers and despite finishing 5th actually ran a second faster than they did in the heats with GB's 3rd fastest time ever! Shows how fast the race was.

VIRTUAL MEDAL TABLE PREDICTIONS:
Gold: Lauren Price
Silver: none
Bronze: Frazer Clarke
Two medals predicted on the final, one of which has already been confirmed after Frazer Clarke lost his super heavyweight semi-final, securing him a bronze medal. Lauren Price is in the middleweight final and will go home with either gold or silver.
For the first time that I can remember, the track cycling concludes on the final day of the Games and there are chances there, with Laura Kenny in the omnium and Jason Kenny and Jack Carlin in the keirin.

Lauren Price won boxing gold, meaning GB finishes with 22 gold medals, 21 silver and 22 bronze. 65 medals in total, which is the same as 2012. GB finish 4th on the medal table.
The virtual medal table predicted 52 total medals and 7th on the medal table.
