Thoroughly enjoyed Bristol City beating Cardiff, and Man United beating Liverpool last night! I wonder what the odds were on Leeds beating Chelsea, Man City not winning and Man U beating Liverpool as an accumulator. Man U were 100/30 yesterday, I think. Man City were 3/1 to draw, so would've been slightly shorter to not win. Leeds were around 4/1. So say you had Man City to draw, the combined odds for the treble would've been 85/1.

VAR had a bit of a nightmare this weekend! Or rather the people running it, had a nightmare!

I'm just talking to myself in here, but how about instead of var for every decision, managers have 2/3 reviews and they can choose to use them for offside goals, potential penalties, etc?

I'm still angry that the referee makes the right decision then VAR over rule it, but then the people running it are failed referees so its no surprise, just f*ck off, sack them and bring in the best, VAR works in other countries, it works in World Cups, it works when competent people run VAR
Apparently they are getting Howard Webb in to sort it out which is fine by me, just get rid of the numpties who have never played the game before, absolute jobsworths making calls on things they know nothing about, they have 50 replays in slow motion from an infinite number of angles for christs sake!

With the group stage of the Nations League over, the seeding pots for the Euro 2024 qualifiers are now set: NATIONS LEAGUE POT (The final 4 in the Nations League, guaranteed to be in a 5-team group): Netherlands Croatia Spain Italy POT 1: Denmark Portugal Belgium Hungary Switzerland Poland POT 2: France Austria Czech Republic England Wales Israel Bosnia & Herzegovina Serbia Scotland Finland POT 3: Ukraine Iceland Norway Slovenia Ireland Albania Montenegro Romania Sweden Armenia POT 4: Georgia Greece Turkiye Kazakhstan Luxembourg Azerbaijan Kosovo Bulgaria Faroe Islands North Macedonia POT 5: Slovakia Northern Ireland Cyprus Belarus Lithuania Gibraltar Estonia Latvia Moldova Malta POT 6: Andorra San Marino Liechtenstein 10 groups, top 2 in each group qualify, plus 3 from the playoffs. One playoff path for each of the top 3 Nations League leagues. Germany qualify automatically as hosts, Russia remain suspended. Draw is on 9th of October. Any team that won its group in League A, B or C of the Nations League is guaranteed at least a playoff place. Some potentially wild variations in terms of the possible groups. For example, England, Scotland or Wales could be drawn with Spain, Sweden, Turkiye and Slovakia. Or they could get Hungary, Armenia, Faroe Islands and Gibraltar. The qualifiers themselves start in March.

I'm a big believer (unlike the current BlueKip Government, and everyone who works for & watches kGB News) if you can't take it, don't give it out.
And fair is fair. This might hurt (me), but this is very funny:

The Lionesses beat the USA 2-1 at Wembley, putting down another marker ahead of next year's World Cup. VAR actually made itself useful for once, giving England the penalty from which Georgia Stanway scored the winning goal, ruling out a US equaliser for offside, then overturning a late penalty for the USA that had been incorrectly awarded for handball.

If Newcastle finish above Liverpool i will eat my hat I'd start slow cooking it now, just to make it nice and tender by May, just in case... And numbers for the 1st round of the FA Cup are here. I think Liverpool will end up higher in the table than they are now. I think they're the best team we've played so far, and although their defending wasn't great against us, it was much better vs City. At the moment I see them competing with Chelsea and Sp*rs for CL places. Newcastle not consistent enough to challenge the top 5 at the moment, but might give Man Utd a run for their money.

I see Stevie G has been sacked by Villa.
Presumably he won't be too distressed, as it was only ever a temporary job while he waited for Klopp to bow out of Liverpool.

Arsenal's draw at Southampton means they haven't managed to become the first top-flight team to win all their games in a single PM's time in office.

Very sad to hear that Ronnie Radford has died. He is best known for the screamer he scored for Hereford against Newcastle in the FA Cup in January 1972. The goal is usually shown every time the third round of the Cup comes around. Quite rightly too as it is still an amazing goal. Everything about the game shouts 1970s football, not least the muddy pitch and of course a giant killing win by a non-league team against top league opposition. The ball slowed down nicely in the mud which allowed Radford to be able to hit the ball so sweetly into the back of the net.
A longer clip of the highlights
RIP

Marske United have appointed former England U21 international and British light-welterweight champion Curtis Woodhouse as new manager. He succeeds Carl Jarrett, who stepped down last month after eight years in charge.

We were hoping for a big London derby in the next round of the EFL cup but they all got knocked out. We're the only London team left in the contest now.

I think it's Manchester City, Arsenal, Newcastle and one other. All the other teams have been inconsistent. Or maybe Spurs are just not good enough but have simply managed to consistently beat the weaker teams. Unlike Liverpool who have not.

Nathan Jones the new Southampton manager, getting them ready for the Championship I guess as he's done well at Luton, but was awful at Stoke, and twice now he's stiffed Luton fans over, which earns my respect!

^^^ Building for the future.
Young squad. Young manager. Should be a real force in the Championship in 2028-29.
