Guernsey's silver medal in bowls today was their first medal of any colour since 1994 and only their seventh ever at the Commonwealth Games.

A really enjoyable event. My excellent view of the squash, just a few seats along from the tv commentators, cost only £22. For this I had almost 4 hours of top class sport, watching the men's and women's semi-finals. Six of the semi-finalists are in the world Top 10, including the current men's number one. Using a wide lens, here's an all-English women's semi-final involving the world #6 (Sarah-Jane Perry) and #8 (Georgina Kennedy). And 27 year-old Joel Makin (Wales, currently #5 in the world) playing a very different game style-wise to 38 year-old James Willstrop (England, a former world #1).

A hectic schedule for me today. Weighlifting following by a dash around Birmingham to the mountain biking, and finishing with some swimming.

Weightlifting is about tactics as well as strength. Its the tactics which make it a captivating spectactor sport. Each lifter only gets 3 attempts in the snatch and 3 in the clean & jerk, regardless of whether their lift is good or not. Thus you don't want to attempt weights which are too easy, because you'll waste your opportunities. But if you leave it too long, then the weight on the bar could rise beyond your capability, and you lose out this way. Here's our winner in the men's 109kg category, Junior Ngadja, winning Cameroon's first medal of the Games.

Mountain Biking isn't an especially exciting sport on tv. But it is hugely photogenic, thanks to the scenic backdrops, the close proximity between competitors and spectactors, and the opportunity to walk around the course during the race, and watch from different locations. In contrast, swimming's brief bursts of speed make for thrills in the hall, but not for good photography. This is the start of the women's 400m freestyle. Olympic Gold Medallist Ariarne Titmus of Australia in lane 3, on her way to her first Commonwealth gold. And the winning England team from the 4x100m medley relay, which beat Australia by 0.08 seconds. Left to right Tom Dean, James Guy, James Wilby & Brodie Williams.
