Round 2: Portugal 0-0 Slovenia (AET, Portugal win 3-0 on pens) Diogo Costa saved 3 penalties in the shoot-out as Portugal eventually overcame a spirited Slovenia side. Neither side could find a way through during the 90 minutes and when Penaldo had his penalty magnificently saved during extra time, the shootout seemed inevitable. Portugal next play France, who have somehow managed to play even worse than England so far.

You know that Ronaldo is thinking Portugal only won that shootout because he scored the first penalty, nothing to do with the gk making three great saves... Cant stand him, he takes every free kick, will he have a tantrum if he doesn't? Ridiculous! I think he knows he's on borrowed time now and will try to milk every opportunity he has. Also shows how playing in an overpriced farmers league in Saudi still doesn't have enough quality and it does shows in his play.
The problem is no one else in the Portugal team is going to argue with him if Ronaldo wants to take pens or free kicks. If anything, it heaps more pressure if the alternative (guessing Bruno Fernandes?) takes them knowing Ronaldo will at least scowl at him if he fails.
To be fair to him, after missing the pen in extra time - at least he didn't chicken out by putting himself at #5 in the shoot out.

Spain must be favourites now. Beating the host nation with two quality goals and playing some decent football as well.

I've only seen the highlights of France v Portugal, but it looked like a terrible game. Spain will be devastated if they don't wipe the floor with France.

I can confirm it was terrible. Anyone who claims that Gareth Southgate's England are terrible should be made to watch all France's ("If France were playing in the back garden I'd close the curtains" (c) Jurgen Klopp on German TV 05/07/2024)) games in the Euros so far on a 24 hour loop.
Plus Portugal's self harming falling into the black hole of one man's galactic sized ego cost them a real chance of victory last night.

This is terrible, if it wasn't England, I'd switch it off and go and do some gardening. A corner (an attacking opportunity) ends up after two passes back with Pickford. A throw in the attacking last third, ends up back with Pickford after another couple of passes and a free kick halfway into the Swiss half ends up (yes you've guessed it) back with Pickford. And the Swiss haven't done much more either. Should go to penalties now and end our suffering! The qaurter finals have been terrible so far, let's hope the Turks and Dutch show us what football used to be like.

your correct all the quarter finals have been awful. looks like everyone is afraid to attack just in case they lose one on the break. Pickford's England's best outfield player

So good to see Shaw back and seeing chances being created on the left! First half was meh but a better performance I thought. Decent pens too.

Pickford's England's best outfield player He probably has more touches than Kane I was astounded at half time how much they were raving about Foden in the #10 role and how it was so much better. We just didn't seem like we wanted to win. Go behind, we want to equalise, but no further. End of the day we are in the semis now, but we do keep saying they'll get better and it doesn't happen

If England actually play as a team that they should, they will give somebody a thumping.

England's best performance so far, against the best opposition they've faced. Disappointing overall, nonetheless.
But it is good being able to go into a penalty shoot-out thinking that we have at least a 50:50 chance of winning.
Of course, getting to a third major tournament semi-final won't stop millions of people from proclaiming Southgate as England's worst manager ever, and why can't we just appoint Nigel Farage instead.

Definitely our best performance but something is still lacking. We did well in the penalty shooutout though.

Been working all week so didn't see any of the quarter-finals apart from England's penalty shoot-out. Meanwhile, at the Copa America... Quarter-finals: Argentina 1-1 Ecuador (Argentina win 4-2 on pens) Venezuela 1-1 Canada (Canada win 4-3 on pens) Uruguay 0-0 Brazil (Uruguay win 4-2 on pens) Colombia 5-0 Panama Semi-finals: Argentina v Canada Uruguay v Colombia

German referee Felix Zwayer will referee the semi-final between Netherlands and England.
He served a six-month ban for a match-fixing incident in Germany and has bad blood with Bellignham.
Meanwhile France and Spain have Slavko Vincic, accused of match fixing. Back in 2020 he was found in a cabin in Bosnia with 9 women, a cache of weapons and 14 packages of cocaine, 10 pistols, 3 suits of body armour and 10k in cash lol
