OK, here goes. Ronnie's match starts today because it's the quarter-finals and all four quarter-finals start today. There are 2 world rankings in snooker. There's the end-of-season rankings, which are based on the last 2 seasons. These are the official rankings and are used to determine the top 16 and who qualifies automatically for each tournament. Ronnie was #1 at the end of last season so, officially, he has been World #1 right through this season. However, there's also the provisional rankings, which are based on last season's results and this season's so far. They are a more accurate representation of a player's current form. They basically tell us what the world rankings would be if the season finished right now. Coming into the World Championship, Ronnie was at #4 in the provisional ranking. As the World Championship is the last event of the season, the rankings at the end of tournament will be the official rankings for next season and whoever is top will officially be World #1. If either Ronnie or Ken Doherty wins the World Championship, they will be #1. To help show what I mean, here is what the top 16 of the provisional rankings looked like at the start of the World Championship. The number in brackets is their official ranking, from the start of the season. 1(2) Stephen Hendry 2(6) John Higgins 3(11) Ken Doherty 4(1) Ronnie O'Sullivan 5(21) Shaun Murphy 6(3) Stephen Maguire 7(9) Mark Williams 8(10) Stephen Lee 9(15) Steve Davis 10(30) Barry Hawkins 11(7) Peter Ebdon 12(13) Graeme Dott 13(28) Neil Robertson 14(14) Joe Perry 15(19) Ali Carter 16(17) Anthony Hamilton So you can see there, Ronnie O'Sullivan was #1 at the start of the season and so is officially World #1. However, his performances this season have meant he's slipped down the provisional ranking and if the season had finished after the China Open, he'd be at #4.

So here's the order of play for the semi-finals (best of 33 frames):
Peter Ebdon V Marco Fu Thursday 2pm, Friday 10am and 7pm, and Saturday 2:30pm
Graeme Dott V Ronnie O'Sullivan Thursday 7pm, Friday 2:30pm, and Saturday 8am and 7pm

I just pulled that from BBCi, and I can't help but think that Saturday 8am is a bit of an early start for Graeme and Ronnie.

Dott v Ronnie starts tonight.
I'm pretty sure that Saturday morning session will be 10am, rather than 8.
By earning a place in the semi-finals, moves Ronnie up to 3 in the provisional rankings, behind Hendry and Doherty. If he gets to the final, he will finish the season at #1.
Peter Ebdon will move up to #5 if he wins the tournament. Graeme Dott would move up to #6 if he won. If Marco Fu wins the title, he will move into the top 16, pushing out Anthony Hamilton.

I've missed it the last 2 days, and its typical that its quite dramatic! Firstly the Ebdon-Fu match drags on in the first session, 2 frames lasting over 45 mins. 1 fan actually shouting at the players to get on with it as its like watching paint dry!
Then yesterday Ronnie fiddling with his tip which means it came off causing play to be suspended for 20 mins. I'm a big Ronnie fan, but I do admit that his continual worrying with his tip is becoming a bit of a pain now. I thought when he put John Parrott's tip on his cue in his match against Mark Williams that that would be the end of it.
On another note I read that Ebdon was geting fed up with the fans in the arena having earpieces to listen to the TV commentary. Personally I don't se the problem with it unless it distracts the players which it shouldnt do.

Fu's pulled it back to 16-16 against Ebdon. It's one frame to decide who reaches the final!
