Two excellent songs here, one (Country Girl) that has grown on me slowly since charting unimpressively, and four more that just about charted, mostly for only one week.

#50Dirty Pretty Things "Bang Bang Youre Dead "The stand out track of 'Waterloo To Anywhere' reached no#8 in my chart, not their biggest hit but the one that has stayed with me the most and showed the most promise. #49We Are Scientists "It A Hit "A re-issue from 2005 reached no #4 in January from a superb album. #48The Feeling "Love It When You Call "Reached #2 this month, its time for me to comment on The Feeling. I didnt get them at first and tbh I couldn't understand the hype 'Sewn' left me cold but each single release since I love them more & more they are just so poppy and happy 70s retro, just cant hate them. #47Maximo Park "I Want You To Stay "Last single release by one of the bands of 2005 it reached no#5 and was a deserving single, brilliant album cant wait for something new. #46The Rapture "Gotta Get Myself Into It "Single reached no #4 the album not making the same impact as 'Echoes' probably coz everybody and his dog and making records like this. 'Echoes' was revolutionary this album was just more of the same. #45 " "One of the most unusual discoveries of 2006 this Brazilian band CSS heard their debut on MTV2 and was sure what to make of it them, 'Lets make love...' #69, this one though I had more time to love and to me are one of the finest new bands this year reached #2 #44Muse "Starlight "One of the tuffest bands to position in my top 100,all three singles actually changed position twice. Eventually 'Starlight' came out top as its a more traditional Muse rock track less bombast more melody it reached no#2. #43Captain "Frontline "This reached #6 on re-issue and again it jossled for position with the other Captain singles, Love their album it reminded me of Deacon Blue,Prefab Sprout and mellow Smashing Pumpkins hence I was always going to rate it. #42Fedde Le Grande "Put Your hands Up Detroit "2006 make not have been quite the dance revolution that was hoped for but it was the year it got good again, not since 2001 has their been so many dance tracks in my top 100 and there are four more to come. This was a real love hate track but since I really like all this new rave stuff,it had to do well, it reached #3 in the end #41The View "Wasted Little Djs "And now the best debut single of 2006 by a completely new band this reached no#4 and was so exhilarating from the first time i heard it. Just a great rock pop record that you just cant stop singing and bonus they are Scottish!!!

thankfully you didn't put the front cover of the CD of Love It When You Call. I made that single do worse in my chart than it would have done because of that cover.

#19The Automatic "Monster "A number one single in my chart love or hate this you couldnt ignore it, yes it is probably awful but its so more addictive, singalong, catchy, jolly, chanty than it deserves to be. My three year old loves it which just about says it all. This is indie pop!! rock music that 3 years olds will sing and there should be more of it not less.

So far from your top 50, I'd say about 8 of them are likely to feature in my year end countdown.

#18Nada Surf "Always Love "This reached #2 on official release in my chart after charting on import in 2005,it also managed to make the Official Top 75. Most famous for their alt-rock classic 'Popular' from 1996. They returned with an album so different from their post-grunge sound; a beautiful album which reminded me more of Teenage Fanclub than anybody else and this track if radio had got behind it may have given them their first proper hit but as usual it was only a specialist radio hit.

#17AFI "Miss Murder "Another #1 single this the first of the superb 'December Underground' album. While not as groundbreaking as the classic 2003 record 'Sing The Sorrow' it was still better than 99% of music that passes for emo/modern rock music only bettered by Panic! At The Disco for me.
