89. Athlete - Hurricane [2007]First of three songs in the top 100 from Athlete, this a #31 hit from last year. Slightly different direction for Athlete, but a great song all the same

88. Ryan Adams - Nuclear [2002](I couldn't find an official video ) One of those songs that I didn't get into at the time, but about a year after it's release I absolutely loved it. Very powerful song

87. Sugababes - New Year [2000]When you are compiling a list like this in June, what the hell are you supposed to do with Christmas songs? Thing is, it doesn't sounds particularly Christmassy, but there is something so beautiful and simple about it. This song was lodged in my head for Christmas 2000. Siobhan Donaghy was the best one in the Sugababes, and she has another song to come in the top 100

86. This Is The Last Time - KeaneKeane are another one of those acts that had one fantastic album and everything else was sub-par. This was the final single from Hopes and Fears and is the first of four songs that make the top 100, all from that album.

Random trivia: Keane went to the same sixth-form college that I did. Several years ahead, mind Enjoying the rundown so far, even if not all of the music is to my tastes Coincidentally, I'm compiling a similar list consisting of only songs which have got to #1 in my chart, as I'm nearing 250. That'll be up soon ;D

Oh dear, the first one on your list I don't like has appeared. I really really cannot stand Mika, but if it's any recompense, this is not the worst single he has released.
Keane: I love Hopes And Fears, all the singles from it were great - Everybodys Changing being my favourite. Though they didn't release the song I liked the most on the album: Bend And Break. I liked Under The Iron Sea a lot as well, there are some great songs on it (Atlantic, A Bad Dream, Nothing In My Way), but the second half of the album is pretty dull.
Sugababes: A simple "yay" will suffice, I think.

85. Starsailor - Born Again [2003]Second and final appearance from Starsailor then, and it's a song that got a bit lost towards the end of 2003. I was going through a tough phase for various reasons at this point, and this was one of the songs that got me through. Absolutely beautiful song, if not slightly forgettable. If I didn't hear this just before I compiled my chart I doubt it would have made it, but it absolutely deserves to

84. How You Remind Me - Nickelback [2002]I can't see this one go down well here at all (at least it's not Rockstar I guess ). But before Nickelback got really annoying and released the same song over and over again, they had one decent hit. I played this to death at the time, and always quite liked the lyrics.

83. Five For Fighting - Superman (It's Not Easy) [2002]Not really a big hit in the UK at all, but got a lot of radio play in Ireland. I remember being very confused at the time because I thought this song was the theme tune to Scrubs!! One of the standouts of the many similar sounding songs floating about in 2002.

82. Oasis - Sunday Morning Call [2000]I have always thought that all of the best Oasis songs have been written and sung by Noel rather than Liam. This is the best of them. A wonderfully anthemic song from the summer of 2000.

81. Snow Patrol - Set The Fire To The Third Bar [2006]Just a simply beautiful and understated song. Martha Wainwright's vocals add so much and work well with Gary Lightbody's. First of three songs in the top 100 for them.

I've enjoyed reading this so far although there's not really been much I've loved, only really Snow Patrol. And it's good to see 'Confusion' get some recognition, always overlooked. The Nickelback one is the only song I'd ever turn off though...

I bought This Is The Last Time when it first came out. Supposedly their second single, as Everybody's Changing was released even earlier but I never knew about that one.
This Is The Last Time was an NM #1 for me for 5 weeks in 2003, whilst dotmusic forums were still going. But as I was refusing to post my personal chart there at the time, many of you probably didn't even know it was.

Snow Patrol - Set The Fire To Third Bar is beyond far their best song they have ever done. It just works atmospherically well with MW on joint vocals - brilliant. I put it on all my iPod "On The Go" playlists.
Oh, and I have nothing against "How You Remind Me". It's the pick of the crap they've churned out. I don't mind "Someday" either. It's Rockstar and Photograph that are cringeworthy dirge.

I think Kenae got the choice of singles spot on for Hopes and Fears. I would have released Can't Stop Now as a hypothetical fifth single, but Bend and Break was good too. I didn't like UTIS at all. I only liked Crystal Ball off that

The more I think about it, I do think that Set The Fire should be much much higher on the list. Oh well. I'm just realising that I forgot all about Grandaddy's Now It's On for this list. Probably would have made the top 100 Oh, and I have nothing against "How You Remind Me". It's the pick of the crap they've churned out. I don't mind "Someday" either. It's Rockstar and Photograph that are cringeworthy dirge. I agree that Nickelback have been guilty of really awful songs (Photograph and Feeling Way Too Damn Good being the worst of the bunch for me). I don't think that Rockstar is as awful as people on here make out.

Some great selections so far Paul. Very interesting to get an insight into what singles you love - have you bought any of these on single, are there stories attached to them, or do you just simply remember them making a big impact on you when they were released? The Snow Patrol/Martha Wainwright single is excellent, it topped my personal chart in November '06 - I think it suited that time of year really well I felt! Looking forward to the rest of the countdown.

Glad you're enjoying it! I haven't bought many of these on single - I've always been a download person . There are stories attached to some of the songs (not many for the first 20 admittedly), and I'll explain them as I count them down. As I said at the start, some of the songs have made the top 100 because I loved them when they came out, and still love them now. Other songs remind me of certain times/events etc.

80. Keane - Bedshaped [2004]Is this song really four years old? I adored this when it came out, because it was so different to their first two songs. There's something so haunting and powerful about the song that really captivated me. Just don't mention the awful popera cover by Griggolo
