79. The Calling - Wherever You Will Go [2002]I mentioned earlier with Nickelback and Five For Fighting that 2002 was full of big rock ballads by American acts - I'm a sucker for those kind of songs, and the Calling's seminal hit was probably the best of them. My god the lead singer looks about 12 on that CD cover

78. Cherry Ghost - People Help The People [2007]I know very little about Cherry Ghost, but this was a big anthem for me this time last year. I was very much into this song when I was in Italy last year, so it reminds me of that. I couldn't believe that this was only a #27 hit

77. Maximo Park - Graffiti [2005]First of three entries for one of my favourite bands of the last five years. Maximo Park have this knack of being able to nail a real gritty anthemic song. I am a firm believer in the lyrics being very important to songs but somehow they get away with the line "I'll do graffiti if you sing to me in French"

76. Kristian Leontiou - Shining [2004]I really liked his first song Story Of My Life when it came out, but this song really struck a chord with me, because it is all about proving yourself and having faith that things will ultimately work out well. After a year in university that I didn't enjoy particularly, I identified with this song for those reasons. Oh, and I fancied him a bit as well

I loved the Cherry Ghost song, but didn't really get into until a couple of months after it was released. 76. Kristian Leontiou - Shining [2004]Oh, and I fancied him a bit as well Hands off b****, he's mine.

75. Turin Brakes - Fishing For A Dream [2005]Second and final song from Turin Brakes on the countdown. A real slow-burner of a song, that I only fully got into about a year after it was out. I actually met Turin Brakes just after this song was out. They opened a HMV store in Durham, and looked quite bemused why dozens of twelve year old girls were screaming for them. And on Smurfles' tip, I checked out Stalker, and I really like that one as well!

74. Avril Lavigne - I'm With You [2003]Avril doing something serious was actually quite a surprise - I liked Complicated a lot but after the awful Sk8er Boi, I had her as a total gimmick. I remember getting into this well before it's release and loving it instantly. The bit at the end when it builds to the final chorus still sounds wonderful today

73. Embrace - Gravity [2004]Gravity coincided with a strange time in my life. I was finishing job my summer job in the bank which I really enjoyed and was about to go back to university, which I was really dreading. This song really sticks out from that period. I don't mind Embrace, but Gravity probably would have been ten times better if Coldplay kept it for themselves...

72. Daniel Bedingfield - If You're Not The One [2002]Probably one of the most perfect and complete love songs of the last ten years. Lyrically, it is easily one of the strongest songs in my whole top 100. Still sounds wonderful today. I remember being quite surprised when this made number one actually.

71. ATB - Let U Go [2001]As I think you've gathered so far, pop, indie and rock really dominate this list. This is the first of a handful of dance songs making the chart. I really hated 9pm (Til I Come), but I quite liked the direction ATB was going when he released the more ambient Fields of Love. Let U Go was the natural next step beyond that. This song was out around the time I went to Canada, so it reminds me of a very good holiday!

79. The Calling - Wherever You Will Go [2002] I remember that one! It spent about 3 months in my chart back when it was out. I don't like it quite so much now.

72. Daniel Bedingfield - If You're Not The One [2002]Probably one of the most perfect and complete love songs of the last ten years. I agree 100%. I am not mad keen it personally, but for a love song, it does the job perfectly. I didn't mind his second album. I'm glad you liked Stalker as well, it's a great song, pity the album is the weak one in their back catalogue so far. Fishing For A Dream is a good choice, it's just plain lovely.

I thought the second album was a step backwards for Bedders. The great thing about Gotta Get Thru This was that it was an extremely eclectic album, whereas Second First Impression was a lot more similar. In saying that, I absolutely adored The Way from that album

The Way is one of my favourites on Second First Impression, I really liked all the singles from it. I'd be interested to see what he comes back with. I've washed my hands with Natasha however, her second album was just plain yuk.

I am baffled at how Natasha is doing so well in the States. Nothing she has done has been particularly wonderful, least of all anything from her second album.
Anyway, moving on with the chart...

70. Keane - Everybody's Changing [2004]2004 really was the year of Keane for me. After the sublime Somewhere Only We Know came this wonderfully catchy sing-a-long number that defined the start of the summer that year for me. Still sounds great.

69. Rui Da Silva - Touch Me [2001]Another dance song in the top 100, and rarely do you find dance songs as intense and engaging as this one! I fell in love with Touch Me over Christmas 2000. I remember that it was set to be released for the Christmas chart, but thankfully it was pulled until the new year when it got a thoroughly deserved #1.

68. My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade [2006]When this song came out, I was long past my EMO-ish phase (more on that later ), so I really shouldn't have liked anything like this. However, I couldn't deny that this is such a great song. I remember someone describing it as the 21st century Bohemian Rhapsody. While that comparison is maybe a bit extreme, the grandeur of Black Parade is probably why I like it so much

67. The Feeling - Fill My Little World [2006]Second song from the Feeling in the top 100, and this one is special to me because it represents a real change of direction in my life. I was done with university by this stage, and very happy to be back home. This song reminds me of what was a very good summer.
