You should know what this is as it's been advertised all over the site (UKMix that is)! 59 tracks with a running time of almost 5 and a half hours, The National's Dessner brothers have compiled and played on an allstar tribute to The Grateful Dead. Includes The War On Drugs, Phosphorescent, Bruce Hornsby, Anohni, The Flaming Lips. Most of it is in the Americana vein but some are outside that genre. About a third of it doesn't work, but you can play the first disc (20 tracks to digital heads) without skipping. First CD i've bought this year. The fact that it's far bigger in UK than in US is quite surprising (also bigger in Germany). The only country that likes them more is Japan. And yes, it's kept off ALL these albums...
2 NEW Band Of Skulls - By Default DEEZER
This is not the blues-rock of before, this is a giant leap into groovy T Rex and other funk styles. Like The Black Keys but much better.
In Love By Default, Erounds, So Good, Back Of Beyond stand out.
3 NEW Ladyhawke - Wild Things DEEZER
Qualifying via a pre-release stream on Fader. She's back to a full synth sound but it's not a classic like the first. Great to hear her happy and in good form. Beaten by fellow Wild Things Against The Current.
4 NEW Moulettes - Preternatural DEEZER
And this eclectic folk band are beaten by their former collaborator Emma Richardson of BOS. Not quite the standard of the last album.

Another folkster who isn't tied to a genre makes a full-on synth set.

Despite the cover and title, this isn't at all aggressive, the general vibe is a ska/pop party fest, as they drop the guitar noise touches for a happy vibe (with underlying political/social intent).

She went on The Voice US in 2014 hoping to go even further but her major label deal collapsed and she's had much less success since. Only now is she charting high on UK iTunes with this release. :cry: I did know her from The Voice but wasn't won over and didn't follow her but she's worth a few minutes of your time.

Oh dear. The week started bad enough with Grimmie's murder, but little did we know more horror was afoot in Orlando and on our doorstep in the UK where guns are far less common. :cry: The complexity of the seemingly gay Orlando killer turning on his own kind because of the hate he was taught and the fragile state of UK (and world) politics when a British nationalist murders an MP for "betraying her country" has forced us all to look at how we are as western societies. There is too much hate-filled or hate-fuelling rhetoric coming out of the mouths of people in authority that should know better. Just an hour before Jo Cox was - in Hillary Clinton's words - assassinated, UKIP leader Nigel Farage unveiled a dishonest poster for the Brexit campaign that resembled Nazi propaganda and conflated genuine Syrian refugees with the EU when they are not related. Donald Trump reacts to the Orlando mass shooting with yet more ignorance and stupidity. :evil:
I've never been more worried about the world - not close to this anxious since the first Gulf War. I've never seen such a grim 7 day period in my life.
I really DO NOT wanna wake up in YOUR wasteland, Farage and Trump.

It's Supreme which according to Wikipedia "The string instrument part is a François de Roubaix-composed piece from the José Giovanni-directed film Dernier domicile connu starring Lino Ventura and Marlène Jobert." TONY'S HITS CHART 29th JULY 2016
1 NEW Broods - Free VIDEO
This deservedly won July's UKMix Forum Song Contest. They're a New Zealand brother-sister duo who had previously been downtempo and more of a low-key alt-dance vibe. I'd heard a couple of these and wasn't convinced, little did i know they were now a fierce pop monster! With Lorde's producer Joel Little helping the propulsive track power along, this song is helped by a spiky video with a strong, sexy lead from Georgia Nott.
I seem to be behind on them in general - on this UKMix site at least. This is because UK radio ignores them and i tend to follow the playlists for new acts - they only turned up once on Radio X i think with a downtempo song which gave me the wrong impression about them. Despite Joel Little, top 60 US albums and success in other countries, mainstream UK radio doesn't want to know - and i've not come across them on tastemaker sites or through acts i love. Or even the UK download charts - they've barely registered anywhere even with the album.

^Furthermore, i find out that it wasn't a Radio X playlist where i'd heard them before but the same Forum Song Contest (in which i won!). Wasn't impressed with Bridges and it hasn't charted now - it's OK but they didn't stand out from the other similar acts with that. Must have disuaded me from checking anything else. |

Cat Southall album audio link is wrong. It's a full album and is on Amazon digital and Spotify / Deezer before "official" release on August 8th.
