As you may well have heard about already, Stephen Lee has been handed a 12-year ban from professional snooker, after being found guilty of match-fixing. Full story: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/snooker/24223268Given his age (38) almost any ban effectively ends his career. A 12 year ban just seems to be rubbing it in.

12 year ban sounds about right to me. Clearly discourages players from cheating, unlike the pathetic 2 year bans that cycling and athletics hand out for serial drug abuse. But leaves an offender the opportunity of rehabilitation, albeit probably after their prime. Not that I expect to see Lee again.

Really? Thought he'd won an awful lot more then that. Snooker prize money is relatively quite small. Only the top half dozen players make a decent living out of it. As for the ban I'm thinking they were a little harsh considering John Higgins punishment.

As for the ban I'm thinking they were a little harsh considering John Higgins punishment. Higgins was only found guilty of failing to report an a approach to fix a match. He was not found guilty of match fixing. I'd love to see this result in a move back to longer matches. After all, it is surely harder deliberately to lose by a fixed score in a longer match than in a best of nine match.

They want the quicker matches for TV and the more diverse audience. I too prefer longer matches as stamina and fitness play a big part too.
As for the Higgins argument he's perhaps lucky he got caught before he had chance to do any serious damage.

These are the 64 players who have qualified for the International Championship later this month:
Judd Trump Alan McManus Mike Dunn Ryan Day Ben Woollaston Fergal O'Brien Rod Lawler Aditya Mehta Mark Allen Tian Pengfei Dave Harold Pankaj Advani Joe Perry Jamie Jones David Gilbert Shaun Murphy Barry Hawkins Jimmy White Steve Davis Craig Steadman Xiao Guodong Alfie Burden Adam Duffy Marco Fu Stuart Bingham Robin Hull Matthew Selt Martin Gould Mark King Peter Lines Jamie Burnett Mark Selby Neil Robertson Alex Davies Thepchaiyah Un-Nooh Zhang Anda Peter Ebdon Jack Lisowski Mark Joyce Ali Carter John Higgins Joe Swail Rory McLeod Matthew Stevens Gary Wilson James Wattana Cao Yupeng Ding Junhui Stephen Maguire Kyren Wilson Michael White Graeme Dott Mark Williams Paul Davison Kurt Maflin Robert Milkins Mark Davis Oliver Brown Michael Leslie Stuart Carrington Li Yan Liang Wenbo Anthony McGill Ronnie O'Sullivan
Ronnie beat Joel Walker 6-1 in his first ranking event appearance of the season. Ricky Walden was the only top 16 player to miss out, losing 6-2 to Aditya Mehta. Michael Holt failed to qualify, just weeks after reaching the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters, which pretty much sums his career up in a nutshell.

Ronnie has played in a couple of European Tour events. They still class as ranking points. He won the ET4 in Germany.

The next tournament is the first ever Indian Open starting next weekend. Not sure of the TV situation for that one. Last I heard, Eurosport weren't planning on showing it but that may have changed. At the end of the month it's the International Championship, which should be on Eurosport.
Next month is the Champion of Champions event which will be shown on ITV (probably ITV4).

The Ruhr Open's taking place now and will probably be on Eurosport over the weekend. It's one of the European Tour events. Ronnie was in it but got beat by Ben Woollaston this afternoon.

The International Championship has been going on this week and is at the quarter-final stage. Ding Junhui is on course for his third ranking title in a row after winning in Shanghai and India (where he beat India's own Aditya Mehta in the final).
Only 3 of the top 16 have reached the last 8, with Judd Trump, Shaun Murphy among those who went out early, as well as Ronnie O'Sullivan who lost 6-4 to Liang Wenbo in Round 2.
Quarter-finals: Ryan Day v Joe Perry Marco Fu v Mark Selby Peter Ebdon v Ding Junhui Graeme Dott v Liang Wenbo
