I'm actually quite surprised by that result, I only had The Sugababes in 18th place. They've had plenty of good singles but nothing that I would call brilliant.
Good results show though Shireblogger. Thanks for taking the time to do it all.

A worthy winner, have always made cracking pop songs, despite the constant changes in the line up, I wonder who will try and nab them for HavenVision now? Excellent countdown fun shireblogger.

And Sugababes were another act I marked down quite low, 14th in fact on my top 20 list. They have released some good - two very good in fact - singles but there's a few I didn't care much for and as a band I could never warm to them (much like the Spice Girls in fact).

It's a shame that in the absence of The Bangles winning that The Supremes couldn't have done so instead. But being marked down so low by six posters suggests a possibility that their timeless music was just too old for some of Haven's posters..? Good point here. I don’t think I had them top twenty from memory. I do quite like the big hits but being a kid of the nineties and a teenager in the 00s I guess they were just a bit too before my time, so sadly the likes of Mis-teeq and co beat them with me. Not something I’ll shout about!

Very happy with the top six though, two from the 90s, two from the 00s and one each from the 80s and earlier seems about right. Sugababes being consistently good probably secured them the win, and perhaps being a bit less pop that Spice Girls and Girls Aloud gives them a bit more mass appeal.
Thanks very much for this Shireblogger, been a great read.

Very pleased with that result I do wonder if everyone had the same line-up in mind when casting votes though.

Thanks for that SB. I could have put a load more female groups in there and I've put a load in the various contests - Runaways, Pulsallama (they didn't record much, but what they did, was brilliant), Client, Slow Down Tallahassee, The Pussycats, Poppy & The Jezebels, Liechtenstein, The Chantels, Schla La Las &c. My favourite Pipettes song is "Feminist Complaints" but it is not very worksafe...
^ this is the more conventional version with Gwenno on backing vox rather than Julia
...but "A Winter's Sky" is just begging to be a theme for a film.
There's never been a debut album that's ever been so full of outright bangerz. Even Never Mind The Bolllocks didn't have so many. (Albeit it was shorter.)

Thanks again for all your hard work compiling shireblogger. What a fantastic result! Sugababes definitely deserved the win - they had a really good run of strong singles and albums during the 2000s. What I love most about the Sugababes is their versatility; they could release proper dance/pop bangers ‘Push the Button’, ‘Round Round’ and also soulful ballads ‘Too Lost in You’, ‘Ugly’, ‘Stronger’. My favourite Sugababes album tracks are ‘Back When’ and ‘Open the Door’.

Very happy with the top six though, two from the 90s, two from the 00s and one each from the 80s and earlier seems about right. Not really. The sixties was the era where girl groups were ahead of the game, fronting up some of the best pop songs ever written, and with stellar performances that fit their songs perfectly. And when they sometimes only had one shot at the recording, without being able to rely on autotune.
The idea that almost nobody from the sixties is as worthy as, say, Girls Aloud, a group whose premise is that personality and musical ability matters so little that you can literally drag people from the street and plug them into the industry machine, is just wrong.

Why on earth is Degrees Of Motion in there? It's a male producer with a female singer. If you're going to allow them you may as well allow any dance act with a female singer!

Seems about right as in spread mainly over the decades where the majority of posters were growing up and more into a lot of these bands. Obviously what any individual would consider is the best era is completely a matter of taste.
