Jennifer Lopez - Get Right I think I can remember most of J'Lo's big hits, but this one has completely slipped my memory - It doesn't really sound like a #1 either. It's nowhere near as good as some of hers that didn't hit the top spot, like 'Ain't It Funny' and 'Waiting For Tonight' in fact. I don't hate it, but it's average at best.

U2 kind of lost their charm by this point - I liked this, but it was treading watery. Electrical Storm from their last album was top drawer material though.

Nelly Featuring Tim McGraw - Over And Over Oh I quite like this one! I'd completely forgotten about it's existence though - which is why I'm enjoying reliving these years so much. Nelly enlists the help of country singer Tim McGraw for this one, who has also recorded with Faith Hill (who is one artist that I love to revisit every now and again). It's just easy listening really, and the blend of genres make it all that more appealing to me.

Negative review coming up. Sorry.
I loved Jennifer Lopez until this point - but Get Right was just abrasive noise. Everything about it - the song, the beat, the video - just awful. So disappointing- like Drunk On Love by another of my favourites- it’s not even a song.

Oasis - Lyla Oasis proving they still had the knack to write a decent tune here, although their album lead singles were rarely (if ever) the best song from the album. While this isn't as good as the stuff they were doing in the early days it's still a pretty catchy tune and deserved its week at the top!

I've just seen what the next song is, and I don't think I can cope with that tonight so might leave it there for now!

I forgot Against All Odds made more than one appearance at the top spot - Steve’s version was not great, but then I thought G4 were always going to win it - Rowetta was as barmy as a box of frogs. I secretly love Goodies. And 12 Step. I really liked Rowettta when she was on X-Factor, and wanted her or Cassie to win!

Sometimes You Can't Make It is possibly my favourite U2 song actually.
I like Get Right, although it isn't quite as good as I remembered it being now I'm listening to it.

Akon - Lonely I know this annoyed a few people at the time, with it's sped up chorus that sounded like Donald Duck, but I quite liked it and found the chorus quite cute. I don't know what happened to Akon, because his chart career was quite brief, but I definitely preferred this to a lot of the R&B/rap that was around at the time.
I recall this was #1 the week Gamliel was born?

I should also correct you that "One Night" came out in 1958, not 1957, but in the UK it reached #1 at the start of 1959. In my chart it was Elvis's only #1 in 1958. Jailhouse Rock was a UK #1 in 1958, in my chart it reached #1 for 4 weeks too but in 1957. In my chart "One Night" was Elvis Presley's 6th number one.

Crazy Frog - Axel F It's hard to imagine a time when Crazy Frog was popular, but the irritating little amphibian spent four weeks at #1 in 2005 with this atrocity. The tune itself, 'Axel F' is brilliant - but it needs to be listened to in its original form by Harold Faltermeyer if you don't want to suffer the "Ding Dings" and whathaveyou.

2pac - Ghetto Gospel Originally recorded in 1992, 4 years before rapper 2pac's untimely death, this features a sample from 'Indian Sunset' - which is a brilliant Elton John song from his underrated 1971 album, 'Madman Across The Water'. I think the choice of sample here is inspired and it works really well with the song. I'm not a massive fan of rap, but I do really like this.

Whilst the Crazy Frog song is absolutely a bin fire - it does give a bit of nostalgia that there was a point in this century where there were adverts littered everywhere for ringtones and wallpapers you could buy for really annoying things, such as said frog, and that tweety bird. Not one I’d like to revisit - but it shows how technology has developed in the mobile phone world.

Crazy Frog is the last bad #1 of 2005 to me.

James Blunt - You're Beautiful I really don't understand why this man receives so much stick - He is a very gifted songwriter, and easily as good as the likes of Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, and he always comes across as a decent guy when he appears on TV shows. When I bought his debut album I played it three times in a row that same afternoon, I loved it that much, and I genuinely think this is one of the best ballads of the decade.

McFly - I'll Be Ok I'm afraid I don't remember this one at all. As the song title suggests, it's ok - but that's about all, it's not really shouting out #1 record to me.

Ha, how funny - I was thinking of 'You're Beautiful' earlier today for no apparent reason.
Nice guy, really not a fan of his music... but then you only have to scroll up as far as Crazy Frog to see that there was plenty worse out there!

James Blunt can be very funny on Twitter, and he has done some good songs, but that this very much an albatross in his music career and left him open for pisstaking - to which he retaliates very well. I actually quite like the song, just it got very very overplayed.
True story: my work colleague at the time was proposed to by her fiancée by him singing You’re Beautiful. He turned up at the office with a bunch of roses and sang the song outside the office for everyone to hear, then went down on bended knee. Sweet, but a bit barfy.

Oasis - The Importance Of Being Idle This came at a time when I think I was getting bored with the Gallagher brothers, and then I heard this and realised they were still capable of brilliance. It may not be 'Wonderwall' or 'Don't Look Back In Anger' levels of greatness, but it's definitely on the next rung of the ladder!
