I'd have to go with:
Best 1. Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out Of My Head 2. Atomic Kitten - Whole Again 3. Roger Sanchez - Another Chance 4. Christina Aguilera etc. - Lady Marmalade 5. Blue - Too Close
Worst 1. Shaggy - It Wasn't Me 2. Bob the Builder - Mambo No.5 3. Afroman - Because I Got High 4. S Club 7 - Don't Stop Movin' 5. DJ Otzi - Hey Baby

Bob the Builder (I don't dislike novelty songs) 4. Robbie Williams - Eternity 5. Westlife - Uptown Girl Worst : 1. Touch Me 2. Can't Get You Out Of My Head 3. Don't Stop Movin' 4. Because I Got High 5. 21 Seconds

^ that last run of 8 may be the worst run of number ones ever. They are not just scraping the bottom of the barrel, they've gone right through and are three-quarters of the way to the Earth's core.

The Ewan McGregor / Nicole Kidman duet from Moulin Rouge *is* brilliant, though!

The Ewan McGregor / Nicole Kidman duet from Moulin Rouge *is* brilliant, though! I haven't heard that so I should go and listen to it really, so I can form a better opinion about her vocal abilities because you can't really hear her very well on the Robbie diet. On reflection as well, 'Eternity' isn't bad, so it's just 3/4 that aren't too good. Bob the builder was the biggest shocker though - you really think that's the 3rd best #1 of the year???

Aaliyah - More Than A Woman We're into 2002 now, with this posthumous release from R&B star Aaliyah who had been tragically killed the previous August in a plane crash, aged just 22. To be honest, apart from 'Back & Forth' and 'Try Again', which were pretty good slices of 90s R&B, I had paid little attention to her music while she was alive. This is probably her best though, and the signs were there that she was moving onto bigger things. Although just how big we'll never know.

George Harrison - My Sweet Lord I think this was the first time ever that one posthumous chart topper had replaced another, and this one had already topped the charts way back in 1971. The song is obviously brilliant, even if its similarities to The Chiffons 'He's So Fine' are way too obvious to just be a coincidence!

Enrique Iglesias - Hero This is absolutely stunningly beautiful - just like the man who sings it! I was totally in love with him at the time this came out, and this song has to be up there with the best love songs ever written! The song stayed at the top of the charts for 4 weeks, and his follow-up 'Escape' (which is also amazing) reached #3 later in the year.

Westlife - World Of Our Own This is definitely one of the boys' better singles, and it's quite a bit poppier than most of their usual fodder too, with a really catchy chorus to boot. I mean, it's not a classic by any means but I could happily listen to it now and again without wanting to skip it.

Will Young - Anything Is Possible/Evergreen Ah yes, I forgot this was the year of the first Pop Idol (and it's just reminded me of something else I have to look forward to soon!), but at least the right person won. It was blatantly obvious from the offset that Will was the one with all the talent, and the personality, and deserved to win - despite the judges barely being able to contain their disappointment when boring Gareth finished second... Anyway, the songs: 'Anything Is Possible' is pleasant enough and has quite a nice catchy chorus, if not Earth-shattering. I do rather like it though. 'Evergreen' is your typical boyband ballad fodder - but it's actually rather nice. It might be his voice that gives the song a bit of oomph, but I do rather like it.

Gareth Gates - Unchained Melody Aaaaaaaaaargh! I didn't expect it to come quite so soon, but at least I get it out of the way I suppose. This is the one that I remember all of the judges gushing over when he did it on Pop Idol - and never have I disagreed with talent show judges more! It's just awful, like the musical equivalent of nails down a blackboard. Even the Robson & Jerome version was better than this! As far as I'm concerned though there is never any need to listen to a version other than the Righteous Brothers'!

Oasis - The Hindu Times I'd forgotten this one got to #1, it's by far my least favourite of the four singles from 'Heathen Chemistry'. After Gareth Gates though it sounds positively grand! I don't know really, like their last #1 it would struggle to make my Oasis top 30, but it's not bad - just not great either.

The Sugababes - Freak Like Me I never agreed with the consensus on here that they are the greatest girl group of all-time, but the 'Babes did make a few good pop songs - although this wouldn't be anywhere near as good without the Gary Numan/Tubeway Army sample. It's still better than the type of pop we get in the charts today though.

DJ Otzi - Hey Baby (Uhh, Ahh!)
Absolute garbage!
Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out Of My Head
What a comeback for Kylie! Fantastic album as well.
Afroman - Because I Got High
It's fun to listen to, if you are high.
Blue - If You Come Back
Decent number 1 with great vocals from Lee.
S Club 7 - Have You Ever
Another good ballad from S Club 7. The video was shot at the same place where Buffy in some episodes (Angel's residency).

Aaliyah - More Than A Woman
I have always liked Aaliyah. She was representing sophisticated r'n'b music. Her death really shocked me, We need a resolution is my favorite song.
Sugababes - Freak like me
Very unexpected and once again, a cover. But Richard X did a great job. Brilliant vocals!
