much that I like Adam Green I don't think he's done enough yet to get on this list.

Johnny Nash? American singer from the 1970s who combined soul and reggae. Hits include "I Can See Clearly Now" and "Tears On My Pillow" (the latter not related to the Kylie Minogue song of the same title, which was a cover of Little Anthony & The Imperials, even though the next line was also "pain in my heart").

All I am worried about is you will get too many names that the vast majority of people will not have heard of and this will put them off voting. This is why we kept it to 64 in the women, we may have missed a couple, but people have voted in their droves, I can just see some pairings not getting many votes at all as people will just have no clue at all...Up to you though Neil, it's your baby, just dont hijack the Groups thread, that I'll start next month ok;) Oh by the way, edited the thread title, to top 200 male...

The list will be only 192 though..
We'll split the voting into 4 for the first round. In groups of 3 - so we have only 48 at a time, in 16 groups.
Firstly, it will be educational - people may be introduced to significant male artists they hadn't heard of, and may be tempted to find out more about them. Secondly, I think this is the fairest way to eliminate them.
There will be a 2 week period after we have a completed list until voting begins, plus probably 1 week to vote in each category (though we may have an overlap period, i.e. we start a voting group half a week after the previous one, so we get that part over with quicker).
Perhaps we could bring Chart Refugees into the voting as we have a good relationship with them.
By the way, FatherAndy, is there anyone on that list really that you have no idea who they are?

Most of the names I know, just prolly not heard music by some... Chart Refugees, humm, nice idea, best to get them to register and post here though, they are generally younger over there, so not likely to know anyone pre-1980...

There are a few on that list that I have no idea who they are. Where can I go to find them and Listen to them? Is there such a place?

A lot of them are before I was born too, you know. I'm not that old!
Some more possibilities:
Del Shannon is not on the list. He's best known for "Runaway" but had loads more hits, 8 top 10 hits in total, including two #2s. I am therefore going to propose his entry.
Eden Kane was a "new big thing" and had a #1 in 1961. Had 4 more top 10 hits. I am not proposing this singer, but bringing him to your attention in case there are 2 posters here who wish to propose and second him.
Of the more contemporary rappers, Jay-Z has had a lot of hits in the last few years. Again I will leave it to others to propose and second him.

Some more that have come to mind:
Dave Edmunds. His biggest hit was "I Hear You Knocking" but also produced and discovered other acts and produced them, like the Stray Cats, and also worked closely with Nick Lowe in the late 70s, (Nick Lowe probably didn't do quite enough to be nominated), the two of them recording an album together as "Rockpile" in 1980.
Nick Cave. Alternative Australian singer, originally in the group the Birthday Party, then formed "Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds", though not sure if that's a real group or just a backing band name.
Eddy Grant. Reggae singer from the band the Equals, who had a string of solo hits in the 1980s (well 1979-1988) including a #1 "I Don't Wanna Dance".

I would like to see Roachford on the list, if someone would second him. Over 10 years of hitmaking, and some damn good songs!

Was Roachford a group or just the lead singer?
Frankie Laine and Paul Simon are already on the list.
Jerry Lee Lewis I might agree with. I'll think about it.
I'd like to agree with Billy Bragg. I'll leave it for someone else to second him.
Come on, Eddy Grant has to be there though!. Some second him, at least.

Roachford is a person, not a group at all. Why he has such an odd name I don't know.
