I adore Blackout, I think it's her best album. Many people forget that Britney was the one calling the shots for 'In the Zone' and 'Blackout' - her two best recieved albums. It's ridiculous to judge an entire album on one song, plus you have to remember, in the UK it may seem like she is jumping on the grimey dub-step bandwagon, but in the US, the genre is almost completely absent from mainstream music. Her combination of the sound with a pop-friendly, Dr Luke Electro-pop production is going to actually open a lot of doors for a lot of more underground artists in the wider US market.

They need to release it on SUNDAY!! Jive are idiots! They don't seem to know ANYTHING. It's frustrating, but I don't think it will jeopardise the opportunity for a number one. If it doesn't happen after week one (chances are high), I'm optimistic that once the video debuts, the continued hype will rocket her to the top. I think HIAM has longevity, something she has failed to create in the past. Lack of radio support was always her biggest threat, but that doesn't seem to be an issue this time around. I could be completely off the mark, but then again...

Over on the Digital Songs chart, things brighten up. The arrival of "Hold It Against Me" with an as-expected 411,000 downloads sold in its first week is not just Spears' best sales week for a digital song, but also the largest debut for a woman as a lead artist. It trumps the 325,000 that Swift's "Today Was a Fairytale" sold on the Feb. 6, 2010, chart. Source: www.billboard.com/#/news/cake-scores-lowest-selling-no-1-in-billboard-1004139371.storyTHRILLED FOR HER! Her 4th US #1, and she's breaking records in both sales and airplay I think she should be able to bag a second week too.

SO MUCH BRITNEY NEWS! Official press release: "Britney has proven yet again that NO pop artist has the longevity, fanatical fan base and sheer sizzle that she does! In a marketplace littered with supposed heirs to her throne, the first single from her forthcoming 7th studio album, "Hold it Against Me," exploded on impact. First week sales of well over 400k show the huge demand for her music, and all things Britney. In fact, “Hold it Against Me” enjoyed the biggest first week track sales for a female artist EVER, eclipsing the previous record holder Taylor Swift. Britney is just the second artist (joining Mariah) in Billboard’s history to debut multiple songs in the #1 slot. Outside the US the single debuted at #1 in over 20 (!) countries, proving once again that Britney Spears IS the worldwide Queen of Pop.
The US radio picture has been equally explosive. “Hold it Against Me” shattered all previous records for most number of spins at radio in a first day (and one day) period at both Mediabase and BDS! Strong early call out and a flood of requests were immediate. The video will be a sexy, edgy dance piece directed by Jonas Akerlund and showing Britney at peak form and ability. In short, Britney has one of the biggest records of her unparalleled career with “Hold it Against Me.” This rabid reaction is sure to feed the already unbridled anticipation for her brand new album, due out on 3/15.
Once again the industry’s creme de la creme have lined up to work with the legendary Ms. Spears. Back with multiple songs to add to their amazing track record with Britney are Max Martin and Dr. Luke (“Hold it Against Me”). The album also features tracks/production by proven hitmakers Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Fraser T. Smith, and Bloodshy & Avant, to name a few. As is always the way with a new Britney release, look for a major TV event to launch the album, and of course the usual non-stop press coverage on all things Britney. On the heels of “Circus” and its top-grossing, sold-out worldwide tour, make no mistake that fans are ready and waiting for more of Britney! She NEVER disappoints, and NOBODY comes close!"

She NEVER disappoints, and NOBODY comes close!"Oh dear oh dear. Such complete and utter hyperbole guff like this has not been seen since the time of Michael Jackson at his most ludicrous just prior to Chandlergate. But of course Britney is a huge fan of Michael & Janet Jackson .... To release this on the week your single slumps a McFly like 5 places to 6 in its second week on the Billboard US single chart (where Taio Cruz is celebrating his 41st week in the chart at #21) is not a smart move IMHO as it just gives ammo to the haters; and if Elton John (on Radio 2's Chris Evans Breakfast show on Friday) is right about Lady GaGa's Born This Way track being "incredible .... a Born To Run meets I Will Survive anthem for this generation" then this press release is going to look even more silly within a month's time. Especially if Britney's management are going to leave the video's release to after February 13th then she may have to kiss goodbye to climbing (back) up to #1, unless Team GaGa change their mind about doing the "quadruple whammy media blitz" of launching the single to radio; Grammy debut live performance; One Hour prime time US TV interview special on CBS (with Channel 4, Channel 5 & Sky in a bidding war to show it in the UK) and promo video (wrapped up shooting 22/01) to music TV channels all on the same day. Still the one thing you can virtually guarantee with Britney is a great dance pop video. On January 28, 2011, Friedman told MTV News that the video included ten male dancers, and that Spears would be playing different roles, and described the video as "a 21-century 'Rocky Horror,' space age fantasia of dance." Quite literally the video has to better than "F*****' Perfect"!

Of course Britney "slumped", as she's not doing any promo, there's no video and radio play has only just started. She was still the third best selling digital song of the week, with less than 20k between her and the top seller. To be achieving this level of sales with NO promotion, is amazing.
I wish the GaGa comparisons would just stop, honestly. I'm sure Born This Way will have enormous sales, but GaGa has the hype of this only being her second album, plus she is EVERYWHERE. She will be on any show that will have her and will be pulling her usual publicity stunts. In my opinion, it's more of an achievement for Britney to hit #1 based on hype alone, than GaGa getting to #1 based on being dressed like a lobster or wearing a meat dress.
This song will have legs, and the album will be a huge seller. She's been consistently written off since her first album, and has always, ALWAYS, proved her critics wrong.

It's not really fair to criticize her for falling to #6 in her second week, on a chart which is 50% based on airplay. Most songs would struggle to be as HIGH as #6 in their second week. She's only down to #3 in the actual charts. And the fact is, it WILL rise again at some point.

She's only down to #3 in the actual charts. And the fact is, it WILL rise again at some point. Friedman: 'Britney doesn't channel GaGa'Tuesday, February 1 2011, 17:21 GMT Digitalspy.co.uk By Grace Medford Brian Friedman has said that Britney Spears's new video will not mirror anything by Lady GaGa.[/b] The video for 'Hold It Against Me' has been directed by Jonas Åkerlund, who also directed GaGa's videos for 'Paparazzi' and 'Telephone', but choreographer Friedman insisted there are no comparisons. Friedman told MTV: "[Jonas's wife] B. Åkerlund did the styling for it, and I can say that it is not 'Britney does GaGa'. That is not what's happening with this. GaGa has her own niche, and although B. has worked with GaGa before, she's not giving Britney anything that GaGa would wear." He also revealed that he stands off camera and screams motivating words at Spears. "She used to have a prowl about her and an attack that to me was like a tiger, so I kept telling her, 'I want to see the tiger back'. I scream the word 'tiger,' so 'tiger' seems to work. It makes her laugh, so it works," he added. The 'Hold It Against Me' video will allegedly premiere in the US during or immediately after the Super Bowl. Spears's manager recently denied reports that the singer will perform at The Grammys which have since turned out to be false as she is reportedly opening the 53rd year of the prestigious awards ceremony, and previously denied that the video would premiere during Sunday's Superbowl coverage.

Beat me to it! Ha.
I adore the album cover (one of her best yet - a billion times better than Circus or Blackout), and the title is good. Just want her to start promoting now!

The album title is positively asking for a kicking (and is already getting one on a couple of forums I inhabit), as it shares it's title with one of the greatest enigmatic pieces of music ever made...... www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjjDmX9Tkss

Seriously? Are the people on this forum you inhabit 11 years old? Having a vendetta against an artist for having a coincidental title? Justin Bieber fans suddenly look much more mature

I think the gaga comparisons are idiotic to say the least, what's original in gaga when she's just copying Madonna herself, I'm amazed Madonna didn't sue gaga for her Alejandro video ripoff, that was like putting all 23562372 Madonna videos into one. I won't denny that Gaga has some talent but she's far from being the best thing ever, time will tell if she will persist or just do a Duffy gaga should be compared to the artists she's copying, not the other way around
