Why don't they have bronze-medal matches in the "fighting" sports? Are the losing semi-finalists assumed to be injured?

Awesome defensive performance by GB hockey in their 3-0 win over New Zealand.
Apparently, I work with the sister of one of our team. I'll have to say hello to her later today. (She works in a different department to me, and I've never spoken to her).

Meanwhile, GB's women comfortably through to the sprint relay final. USA were initially eliminated but won an appeal, having been impeded and will get to have a race against the clock tonight to try and a place in the final.
GB's men also through but only as fastest losers after finishing 4th in their semi-final.

All the defending champions - awesome! You will take their place in Tokyo though - hopefully the next generation are already inspired!

One (of the many) things I am enjoying about this Olympics is our medals in sports where UK Sport did not expect us to win anything when it announced its minimum target of 47 medals, namely Badminton and Rugby 7s. Our medallists in both of these events demonstrated courage and tenacity, and showed such delight when they triumphed.
Less well publicised than the 47 medal minimum, was the maximum medal target from UK Sport of 79. We will fall short of that total, but a few sports will exceed their own maximum targets:-
Cycling:- minimum 8, maximum 10, achieved 12 Gymnastics:- minimum 3, maximum 5, achieved 7 Swimming:- minimum 3, maximum 5, achieved 6 Diving:- minimum 1, maximum 2, achieved 3 so far with 1 more possible
This is going to give UK Sport a really pleasant headache, when it comes to allocating funding for the next few years. The only sports to have failed to reach their minimum targets are:-
Rowing:- minimum 6, maximum 8, achieved 5 (and still finished top of the medal table). Athletics:- minimum 7, maximum 9, achieved 4 so far, with further potential medals from Mo Farah, Lynsey Sharp, Eilish McColgan, Holly Bradshaw, Charlie Grice, Morgan Lake, and the various relay teams. Modern Pentathon:- minimum 1, maximum 2, events only just started.
So, potentially, rowing (where we are the best in the world), and athletics (the highest profile Olympic sport), will lose money ahead of Tokyo 2020, to fund more cycling, gymnastics, swimming, diving, badminton and rugby.
