From your top 10 Madonna songs I dislike only Papa Don't Preach, La Isla Bonita aged bad, rest 8 are perfect. Like A Virgin is my favourite album, but each her album from 80s is classic. Personally I always have a huge problem with Madonna's place in my all-time ranking. Almost every post-Evita (exclude American Life) album wasn't good and looks like a shadow on her amazing music legacy, mostly from 80s decade.

1. FLEETWOOD MAC
My Top 10 tracks: 1. Dreams 2. Go Your Own Way 3. Everywhere 4. Rhiannon 5. Little Lies 6. Songbird 7. Don't Stop 8. Fleetwood Mac 9. The Chain 10. Seven Wonders
Essential Album: (Everybody knows Rumours, so I'm going for the album that got me into them in the first place: Tango In The Night
I'm ecstatic these have finished at #1 (and I didn't fix it), as they are genuinely my favourite act in the world... ever! My favourite songs of theirs are ever changing, so that top 10 is already out of date, but Dreams remains my favourite song of all-time by any artist.. I remember the first time I heard it, I was just frozen to the spot in awe of the beauty of Stevie Nicks' voice... and it's very few songs that get me like that on first listen. People say Fleetwood Mac are 2 different bands: The original Peter Green blues band, and the Buckingham/Nicks california rock band... that is for the casual listener who hasn't taken time to explore their amazing back catalogue and realised that, actually the progression is a lot more gradual, and many key players have come and gone who get little or no recognition now for their part in Fleetwood Mac's amazing history.... I'm thinking of doing a mini-contest like this featuring all of Fleetwood Mac's key songwriters over the years and adding it to the end of this thread.... so watch this space!!

OK so as a little side project... using the same method as before, here are all 15 key members from Fleetwood Mac's history in their own contest... based only on songs they have written and/or sung lead vocals on whilst with the band.

15. JOHN McVIE
Years with Fleetwood Mac: 1967-present
OK so John McVie (former husband of Christine) may be one of only 2 members of the band to be there from the first record... and he may also be the Mac of Fleetwood Mac, but he finishes last on this countdown and only makes it onto here at all for his sole contribution to the track Searching For Madge from the 1969 album Then Play On, which was also the last album to feature Peter Green (more from him later though). This is the only track in the band's history that John has written on his own... although it is just an instrumental, and not a very memorable one at that... he did however get a couple of co-writing credits, including on The Chain from Rumours, but then so did the rest of the band so I've had to disqualify that song from this contest.... Anyway, John's placing here by no means takes away any of his contribution to the band through the years.

14. BOB WESTON
Years with Fleetwood Mac: 1972-1973
Bob Weston was drafted into the band in late 1972, along with Dave Walker, to replace the recently fired Danny Kirwan. He appeared on 2 albums, both released in 1973, Penguin (which features his sole composition - the haunting instrumental Caught In The Rain) and Mystery To Me. During this period it emerged that he had been having an affair with Mick Fleetwood's wife, and was fired from the band soon after. Weston died in 2012, aged 64.

13. DAVE WALKER
Years with Fleetwood Mac: 1972-1973
Like Bob Weston, Dave Walker was also brought in to replace the recently fired Danny Kirwan, but unlike Weston he only appeared on one album: 1973's Penguin, on which he wrote one fairly decent track, The Derelict, and then sang a cover of the Jr. Walker & the All-Stars classic (I'm A) Road Runner, which is what sees him in this position.... and that is his sole contribution to the band as it was mutually agreed by the other 5 members of the band that his style did not fit in with the band, so he left after just one album.

12. DAVE MASON
Years with Fleetwood Mac: 1995
The rather unfairly critically panned Time album was the first album since 1990's Behind The Mask, and was the first album since Stevie Nicks' departure in 1991. Lindsey Buckingham had left the band after Tango In The Night, and so new blood was badly needed. Former Traffic guitarist Dave Mason was one of the new members drafted in and it gave Fleetwood Mac a totally new sound, which is probably why a lot of fans and critics don't rate Time at all... I actually really like it though. Of the 2 tracks Mason sings on, Blow By Blow and I Wonder Why, I probably prefer the former, but both are catchy enough and it's down to quantity why he's out so early.

Whitney only #8 then.
I loved How Will I Know but for me by far her best was One Moment In Time, it really got to me.
The depth of emotion and her voice range in it was incredible.

11. MICK FLEETWOOD
Years with Fleetwood Mac: 1967-present
Mick Fleetwood is the Fleetwood in the Mac, he's part of the backbone of the band, along with John McVie, who has been there since day one and a constant player that you just can't imagine Fleetwood Mac without. He has had the odd co-writing credit, but his one sole writing credit it for Fighting For Madge, another instrumental from the 1969 album Then Play On.... There are only 2 tracks he has had the main vocal on during his 50 years with the band, and they are the 7-minute spoken word track These Strange Times from the 1995 Time album, and the rather strange but infectious Lizard People, which was the B-side to the 1990 single Skies The Limit, and the song that unfortunately sees him finish just outisde of the top 10.

10. RICK VITO
Years with Fleetwood Mac: 1987-1991
When Lindsey Buckingham quit the band in 1987, just ahead of the Tango In The Night tour and as they were riding high in the charts again, Mick Fleetwood invited Billy Burnette to join... but he would only accept if they would take Rick Vito too.. so they did. His main contribution was on 1990's Behind The Mask album, and I've entered him with the songs Love Is Dangerous, When The Sun Goes Down and Stand On The Rock. Sadly, that means he can go no further and finishes tenth place.

9. BEKKA BRAMLETT
Years with Fleetwood Mac: 1993-1995
One of only 3 female artists in the band's history, Bekka Bramlett had been a member of Mick Fleetwood's other band The Zoo previous to joining Fleetwood Mac. A replacement for Stevie Nicks, Bramlett appeared on just the Time album before leaving to hook up with Billy Burnette (who also left the band at the same time) on the country album Bekka & Billy. I absolutely love Bekka's voice, and she is only out now as she only sang lead vocals on the 3 tracks: but they are all stunners - Dreamin' The Dream, Winds Of Change and Nothing Without You.... Again, I don't get why Time has been confined to the big dustbin of history, as those 3 tracks alone make it worth the purchase.

8. BILLY BURNETTE
Years with Fleetwood Mac: 1987-1991, 1994-1995
Billy Burnette joined the band, along with his friend Rick Vito after Lindsey Buckingham originally left in 1987. He wrote and sang on several songs on 1990's Behind The Mask album before leaving the band in 1991... he came back in 1994, although he only sang lead vocals on 2 of the tracks on Time before leaving again in 1995 and making the Bekka & Billy album with Bekka Bramlett. The tracks I have used for him in this contest are: When The Sun Goes Down, When It Comes To Love, Talkin' To My Heart and In The Back Of My Mind (which sadly saw him go out.)

7. JEREMY SPENCER
Years with Fleetwood Mac: 1967-1971
Jeremy Spencer was one of the original four members of Fleetwood Mac who used famous blues musician Elmore James' songs and styles on many of the tracks on the first 2 of the band's albums: Fleetwood Mac and Mr. Wonderful (both released in 1968). He hardly featured at all on 1969's Then Play On (which featured the amazing new talent of Danny Kirwan), but then Peter Green left the band and he returned for the follow-up, Kiln House (released in 1970), which featured what in my opinion is the best song he ever wrote, One Together, which John Lennon would have been proud of and really is a lost gem that should be much more well-known. During a tour in 1971, Spencer left their hotel room to visit a book shop and never returned... They found out days later that he had joined the Children Of God, a religious group, and no longer wished to be in the band. Other than One Together, his recordings featured in this contest are: Shake Your Moneymaker, Mission Bell, My Heart Beat Like A Hammer and his 'out' track, I'm Coming Home To Stay.

As you are well aware (paraphrasing The Reynolds Girls) "I'd rather Mac, than PWL crap" ....
But re the 1995 Time album and subsequent tour .....
Imagine Duran Duran around today but with existing members Roger Taylor (drums) & John Taylor (bass guitar); except then add guitarist Brian James (The Damned; Iggy Pop; The Lords Of The New Church); keyboardist/violinist Stuart Neale (Kajagoogoo); & lead vocalist Johnny Borrell (Razorlight) ..... and that would not be as tragic as this:

I wouldn't have enjoyed the tour probably, but I still love the Time album,... I just see it as another chapter, and there were many even before Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined the party...

I just see it as another chapter, and there were many even before Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined the party... I'm in the camp that it is fine in its own merits but it is not really a Fleetwood Mac album as by then Buckingham, Nicks & Christine McVie's vocals, songs and image was as key to the brand as Top Gear became Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May (as Chris Evans & the BBC found out). The irony is there is an album coming out June 9th that is to intents a Fleetwood Mac album ("Buckingham McVie" released by Warners Bros), but won't be because Stevie Nicks (lawyers, allegedly) has played hardball on the band's brand name (allegedly she wanted her 20% cut of the artist royalties for it to be released under the band's name, despite playing zero part in the recordings with the other four members).

They're still arguing after all this time! The thing about Fleetwood Mac that fascinates me though is the colourful and unique history they have, and how many different people contributed to that... although I do agree that the Nicks/Buckingham/McVie combo is the best one. I know some original fans of the Peter Green era hate that sound though and still think of them as a blues band.

I didn't know her before, so this Mac members' rate already wasn't pointless. A battle for # 2 between McVie and Buckingham will be interesting.
