1st October: The Platform (2019)
IMDB Rating: 7.0
Premise: A vertical prison with one cell per level. Two people per cell. Only one food platform and two minutes per day to feed before the platform moves down to the next level. An endless nightmare trapped in The Hole.
Razzle's Review: The "Verticle Self-Management Center" is clearly a metaphor for society where the privileged few at the top consume far more than necessary whilst those below have to do without, the platform is our life, and the administration are the government and the levels are the self created social classes, even though the level you find yourself on changes every month at one point a guy shits on the person on the platform below rather than help him climb the social structure which is a powerful message when he could easily find himself on a platform below him next month. The film shines a spotlight on the darkness of human nature with people quickly resorting to inhumane things to survive starvation. Its a Spanish film, dubbed in English that I thoroughly enjoyed
Trailer:
Quotes: Goreng: The people above won't listen to me. Imoguiri: Why not? Goreng: I can't sh*t upwards.

Yeah Rebecca really liked it (media student), Sam didn't get it Wasn't the ending a bit odd, something about a child getting out of there?

2nd October: Halloween (1978)
IMDB Rating: 7.8
Premise: Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield to kill again
Razzle's Review: The ultimate Halloween classic and the start of the slasher franchise, I recently watched the 2018 Halloween and really enjoyed it so went into this one expecting to be impressed, its a classic right? Sadly this one hasn't aged well at all, the acting is cheesy and unconvincing, even reading the script the actors that play the teenagers are wooden and talk like they are reading rather than talking like they are talking and its really poor acting. There are moments here that kick started the slasher movement though, an iconic bad guy, a Halloween killing spree, some classic 10/10 scenes, it ticks the boxes sure, the relentless boogeyman Michael Myers has become an iconic movie monster and Halloween has a banging theme song too, it has all the right ingredients to be a classic apart from it was all done on a 300k budget and suffers as a result, it's a 10/10 movie franchise, with a 10/10 classic horror movie bad guy within a mediocre movie for me, I wanted to give this one a 10 but it's only a 7 for me
Trailer:
Quotes: Lynda: [exposing her breasts] See anything you like?

Yeah Rebecca really liked it (media student), Sam didn't get it Wasn't the ending a bit odd, something about a child getting out of there? The ending was a little odd but I don't want to give the ending away too much because it is well worth a watch if people haven't seen it, but it is one of them open to interpretation endings The director said "We actually did film a different ending of the girl arriving at the first level, but we took it out of the movie.", “I’ll leave what happens to your imagination.”

3rd October: Till Death (2021)
IMDB Rating: 5.8
Premise: Emma is stuck in a stale marriage to Mark and is surprised when he whisks her away to their secluded lake house for a romantic evening on their 10th anniversary. But everything changes the next morning when she finds herself handcuffed to Mark's dead body as part of a sick revenge plot. Trapped and isolated in the dead of winter
Razzle's Review: I was looking for Jennifer's Body on streaming services but came up short, instead I noticed Megan Fox had this new horror film out so I settled for this little number to get my Megan Fox fix. The premise is an interesting twist to the Husband/Wife revenge story that turns into a survival horror after the wife is pretty much left for dead after her jealous husband whisks his cheating wife away to a remote cabin before handcuffing himself to her and blowing his own brains out. Now that is the elite level of petty I aim for. Not wanting to give too much away, all that is in the trailer and the film bio. It was one of those films where you keep saying to yourself just smash the bloody photo frame and saw his hand off, boom your free, 5 minute movie, ok how about you use the vase, its made from glass...no? the key? ok ok just drag the corpse around for 7 hours instead then. It was ok I guess, pretty average survival/phycological horror along the lines of Gerald's Game with a few different twists and turns, if you like that kind of thing give it a go, if not i'd give this one a swerve
Trailer:
Quotes: Emma "I'm gonna cut myself free of you, if it's the last thing I do."

3rd October: The Strangers (2008)
IMDB Rating: 6.2
Premise: A young couple staying in an isolated vacation home are terrorized by three unknown assailants.
Razzle's Review: With it being a Sunday I ended up watching a second horror and chose a film from 2008 that my horror fan mate recommended a long time ago that I never got round to watching. You can't help but feel uneasy watching this movie, because unlike most horror films this could actually happen. A stranger pulls upto your house, knocks on your door in the early hours of the morning, what's their motive? I'm always one to check out the window first before answering the door so I guess this movie is aimed at me! I won't say anything more about the plot because I don't want to spoil it for you but I will say the main characters in the film are sensible and react accordingly to the situation they find themselves in unlike so many horror movies where the would be victims are constantly doing stupid things making it easier for the perpetrator, in a way that makes the film worse for the viewer as a sense of inevitability dawns on you, if 3 strangers turn up at your door and they want to get in your house and kill you, they damn well can and there's nothing you can do to stop them
Trailer:
Quotes: Kristen: Why are you doing this to us? Dollface: Because you were home.

4th October: Dawn of the Dead (2004)
IMDB Rating: 7.3
Premise: A nurse, a policeman, a young married couple, a salesman and other survivors of a worldwide plague that is producing aggressive, flesh-eating zombies, take refuge in a mega Midwestern shopping mall.
Razzle's Review: The James Gunn written, Zack Snyder produced remake of the George A. Romero classic is a fantastic adaptation of the godfather of zombies film. One key difference from the original is these zombies aren't the sluggish slow shuffling "braiiinnnnns" type zombies, these are 24 days later rage virus infected, World War Z fast on their feet chase you down zombie, terrifying right? You don't have the option of walking away slowly, no thinking time, no escape. I don't mind this, it makes for a more intense experience, for those that prefer the more traditional zombie I will review the original too later in the month because Prime just added Dawn of the Dead (Extended 'Cannes' Cut) which is an extra 15 minutes compared to the original theatre cut so looking forward to that. This one is well casted, loved Ving Rhames as the cop, loved that the female characters didn't just run-around hysterically screaming like in most horror movies, they were actually key to the plot and kept their head, as remakes go this is one of the better ones and best of all it shone a spotlight on Romero's work, exposing a whole new generation to his past work which cemented him as the undisputed godfather of the zombie genre, this revival in popularity saw Romero write 3 more zombie horror films after this remake was a huge box office success so it was great all round for the genre
Trailer:
Quote: Televangelist: "When there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth."

October 5th: The Beach House (2019)
IMDB Rating: 5.3
Premise: romantic getaway for two troubled college sweethearts turns into a struggle for survival when unexpected guests - and the surrounding environment - exhibit signs of a mysterious infection
Razzle's Review: I decided to sign up for dedicated horror channel shudder, 7 day free trail then £5 a month so I get 5 weeks for about 13p a day which I thought was good value, they have some classic horrors, plenty of new stuff (even some exclusives and originals). First up I watched The Beach House, it was like a cross between Cabin Fever and John Carpenter’s 1980 film, The Fog, there's something in the water, a parasite, that spawns and contaminates the air along the seaside coast, after that nothing good happens, another one worth a watch but could have been better.
Trailer:
Quotes: Mitch: When you see someone change in front of you, and you know there's no going back, it scares me to death
Razzle's Spooky Rating: 5.5/10

October 6th: The Babysitter (2017)
IMDB Rating: 6.3
Premise: When Cole stays up past his bedtime, he discovers that his hot baby sitter belongs to a satanic cult that will stop at nothing to keep him quiet
Razzle's Review: This one has been on my to watch list on Netflix for over 4 years, one of the great things about doing this is I'm finally getting through some films! There is a sequel and I enjoyed this one enough to give that a go. "The Babysitter" is a comedy horror that centres around a 12 year old boy and his hot babysitter, things go pear shaped when he learns she's part of a satanic cult, from there things escalate, there's plenty of offbeat humour and a good energy to the film, its certainly a feel good film, perfect for a rainy day, I really enjoyed this one, one word of warning the trailer is pretty spoiler heavy, I'd give it 30 second spin if your intrigued, you should know if its something you want to watch from a short clip
Trailer:
Quotes: Sonya: Do you even know what an orgy is? Cole: I'm guessing it's something sad people do cause they want other sad people to like them and they can forget for one minute how sad they are in general. Max: That's actually a pretty good answer.

October 7th: The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2019)
IMDB Rating: 5.8
Premise: Two years after Cole survived a satanic blood cult, he's living another nightmare: high school. And the demons from his past? Still making his life hell
Razzle's Review: On the back of watching The Babysitter (2017) I decided to follow it up with the sequel, overall another enjoyable film, not quite as good sa the first one but pretty close. Cole once again battles members of a Devil cult, its a fun film but there is plenty of gore too! oh and I really enjoyed the casting of Jenna Ortega (The young next door neighbour from You season 2) as the new weird goth kid that starts school that is rumoured to have killed her parents, another one worth a watch
Trailer:
Quotes: Cole: I really don't have good luck with women, they end up being murderers.

October 8th: Candyman (2021)
IMDB Rating: 6.0
Premise: A sequel to the horror film Candyman (1992) that returns to the now-gentrified Chicago neighbourhood where the legend began
Razzle's Review: This is my kind of film, I'm not one to hate every reboot or every remake, I usually love them, for a start the directing was top-notch, loads of interesting shots, good casting, loved the script, its both different enough to get your teeth into but similar enough to stay true to the legend of The Candyman, that's a very hard line to walk but think they pulled it off, you can tell there is a love of the original film. Well worth a watch over Halloween
Trailer:
Quotes: "Candyman: I am the writing on the wall, the sweet smell of blood. Be my victim"

October 9th: Tremors: Shrieker Island (2020)
IMDB Rating: 5.5
Premise: When a group of hunters genetically modify Graboid eggs, they face an all-out war against the larger, terrifyingly intelligent Graboids, and the swiftly multiplying Shriekers
Razzle's Review: I expected this one to be terrible but I had it good to go recorded on my Virgin box from a few month ago, this one is the seventh series in the franchise! Generally since the original with Kevin Bacon in these films have been getting worse and worse but this one is actually half decent, pretty much the same plot of Jurassic Park, I mean you get what you get, people being eaten, Graboids exploding, the usual.
Trailer:
Quotes: Burt Gummer: [after killing a Shrieker with his bowie knife] Who needs guns, when you got Pennsylvania steel?

October 10th: There's Someone Inside Your House (2021)
IMDB Rating: 4.8
Premise: The graduating class at Osborne High is being targeted by a masked assailant, intent on exposing the darkest secret of each victim, and only a group of misfit outsiders can stop the killings.
Razzle's Review: They don't come much more recent than this one, released October 6th in the UK, my mate was round so I let him chose the film, lucky for me he chose a horror so here we are. This one is based on the 2017 book with the same title by Stephanie Perkins, a pretty standard teen slasher film, with the killer targeting students who have shady secrets. I usually skim IMDB for the synopsis and their rating and whilst I'm there see what people are saying and this one wound the boomers up something rotten, quite a few reviews were angry about the black, gay, transgender cast of misfit students and a woke agenda, which is all part of the left leaning political brainwashing of modern horror films, white people die, black people become the hero's, in one scene Nazi memorabilia is disrespectfully destroyed lol, bet they were trothing at the mouth at that one. I cant even read about sa horror film without being force fed the crazy, we enjoyed it, it was actually a good slasher film, the problem with modern horror people either say "its full of political propaganda", but really it is of the politics of the time, its 2021, there is no damsel in distress screaming and acting all stupid and there are no manly white men that they see themselves in being the hero's. Or even better "it rips off all the favourite films I love so...1 out of 10", erm does that not make it a good film?, its not like a slasher film can go anywhere new, or it becomes....not a slasher horror film, for me it was a solid 6.5/7, they don't try and reinvent the wheel, they just modernise it and well people hate change, I'd say ignore the IMDB rating, take out the right wing loons giving it 1/10 because they are butt hurt and its a good film, it is beautifully shot and we are here to see a dumb slasher film and that's what we got
Trailer:
Quotes: Guy at the party when the lights go out: "sh*t there's someone wearing Rodrigo's face!"
