October 17th: Smile (2022)
IMDB Rating: 6.5
Premise: After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, a psychiatrist becomes increasingly convinced she is being threatened by an uncanny entity.
Razzle's Review: The story is a bit cliché at some points, if you have seen It Follows then this is very much along the same lines, the curse follows you and kills you, I guess it is a modern take of the old Japanese films too like The Grudge and The Ring, but still a good one that was very enjoyable

October 18th: Black Phone (2021)
IMDB Rating: 6.9
Premise: After being abducted by a child killer and locked in a soundproof basement, a 13-year-old boy starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the killer's previous victims
Razzle's Review: Another good recent horror film starring Ethan Hawke as the creepy child killer, if you like slow burn films, sprinkled in with a bit of mysticism and the unknown then this one is for you. I don't think it is a spoiler to say there is a lot of psychological / suspense / thriller elements to the film given the kidnapping theme, what makes it scary for me is this is the real danger, forget killer clowns, zombies, vampires and werewolves, its the broken men who stalk the shadows wearing creepy masks that's the real danger!

October 19th: Saw 3 (2006)
IMDB Rating: 6.2
Premise: Jigsaw abducts a doctor in order to keep himself alive while he watches his new apprentice put an unlucky citizen named Jeff through a brutal test
Razzle's Review: I have seen Saw 1 and 2 many times and watched the most resent ones including the new spin off with Chris Rock so I decided whilst these are being shown during October I will catch up on 3,4,5 which I can't recall, not sure I ever watched them, anyway Saw 3 they revert back to the formula in Saw 1, its ok, i thought Saw 2 was the best Saw film where hey are all locked in a house, like a safe room style game

October 20th: Saw 4 (2007)
IMDB Rating: 5.9
Premise: Despite Jigsaw's death, and in order to save the lives of two of his colleagues, Lieutenant Rigg is forced to take part in a new game, which promises to test him to the limit.
Razzle's Review: Another slight drop in quality but the who done it theme is at least a slight improvement, Jigsaw is dead, but the games continue, the whole point in Saw was he only hurt bad guys and even then he made them hurt themselves but here the game changes and not for the better, I get it though, he is dead and the person who continued is a psychopath

October 21st: Saw 5 (2008)
IMDB Rating: 5.8
Premise: Following Jigsaw's grisly demise, Mark Hoffman is commended as a hero, but Agent Strahm is suspicious, and delves into Hoffman's past. Meanwhile, another group of people are put through a series of gruesome tests.
Razzle's Review: Wow they really did start to churn these out, this is more Saw 4.5, nothing new, just a long back story of how the new Jigsaw became the new Jigsaw after his reveal in Saw 4. Probably the least enjoyable Saw out of the bunch

October 22nd: Halloween Ends (2022)
IMDB Rating: 5. 0
Premise: The saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode comes to a spine-chilling climax in the final instalment of this trilogy.
Razzle's Review: Don't get me wrong I liked the reboot trilogy, but this was nearly 2 hours long, there is no Michael Myers to be seen for most of the movie and the ending wasn't just bad, it didn't make sense. The ending to Halloween Kills is better, epic fight scene, they win, he dies....oh no he didn't we have a third part to show, it wasn't bad, it was just bad in all the wrong places.

October 23rd: Pearl (2022)
IMDB Rating: 7.0
Premise: In 1918, a young woman on the brink of madness pursues stardom in a desperate attempt to escape the drudgery, isolation, and lovelessness of life on her parents' farm
Razzle's Review: The prequel to X, goes right back to 1918 when Pearl was a young woman, not as much of a horror as X but more a slow-paced descent-into-madness, Mia Goth plays the character really well, you believe she is mad, well worth a watch this one, so is the film X

October 24th: Hellraiser (2022)
IMDB Rating: 6.0
Premise: A take on Clive Barker's 1987 horror classic where a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites
Razzle's Review: Big Hellraiser fan, it was my mothers favourite film and i have a Pinhead Funko Pop looking at me right now as i type. I thought this was going to be terrible, they have butchered the franchise so much and when I read they had cast a woman as Pinhead alarm bells were ringing. Whilst the once superimposing and terrifying cenobites have been reduced to creatures who don't act or look scary at all I did enjoy the film overall, but it did feel like Disney had made it, the lack of dread or intensity the original two films had is very noticeable, it was all a bit safe.

October 25th: The Possession (2012)
IMDB Rating: 5.9
Premise: A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that inside the collectible lives a malicious ancient spirit. The girl's father teams with his ex-wife to find a way to end the curse upon their child.
Razzle's Review: Great cast, good story, nice special effects, Jeffrey Dean Morgan buys his daughter a dybbuk box that has a benevolent spirit locked inside it, she gets possessed and the fun times ensue

October 26th: Talk To Me (2023)
IMDB Rating: 7.2
Premise: When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.
Razzle's Review: After listening to a podcast with the writers/directors I decided to check this one out, newly added to Netflix. They used no CGI, just old school prosthetics and acting which makes you appreciate the film more. For me this is one of the best horror films released in the last few years, yes the main character is stupid, unlikeable and makes bad choices but that makes the movie more believable.

October 27th: Bird Box: Barcelona (2023)
IMDB Rating: 5.3
Premise: After an entity of mysterious origin annihilates the world's population causing those who observe it to take their lives, Sebastián and his daughter begin their own great adventure of survival in Barcelona.
Razzle's Review: This was a surprise, never knew it was being made but i did enjoy Bird Box, it is exactly what you think it is, it is Bird Box but follows survivors in Barcelona, it was enjoyable without ever reaching the heights of the original

October 28th: The Harbinger (2022)
IMDB Rating: 5.7
Premise: Monique ventures out of quarantine to visit an old friend who's plagued by nightmares. She finds herself drawn into a hellish dreamscape where she must face her greatest fears - or risk never having existed at all.
Razzle's Review: I'm running out of films to watch now and 2 weeks over the deadline ha but i will finish, this one was The Covid Babadook, the premise was actually quite clever, you catch the virus, the harbinger comes to you in your sleep then in the waking world as you become weaker, praying on your fear and isolation and takes the weakest people and once they are gone, nobody ever knew they existed. The film was ok, the harbinger was cool but i'm fed up of Covid, i feel they it could've been much better if it was about mental illness, the film was all set up for that, maybe that was the original idea before covid hit, who knows.

October 29th: Antlers (2021)
IMDB Rating: 5.9
Premise: In an isolated Oregon town, a middle-school teacher and her sheriff brother become embroiled with her enigmatic student, whose dark secrets lead to terrifying encounters with an ancestral creature. Razzle's Review: While the movie sets up a strong base for a creepy story, the film does very little with it and the ending is pretty bad, there are some nice visuals though, not one i would watch again or recommend though. {The Ending} The main female character picks up a large stick and stabs the creature a couple of times while it just stands there then it drops dead, that is the ending, this creature that has ripped apart and killed everyone so far gets defeated by a small skinny woman with a big stick in less than a few seconds without even managing to mess up her hair. Maybe we were onto a 6+ score with a better ending Razzle's Spooky Rating: 5.5

October 30th: Totally Killer (2023)
IMDB Rating: 6.6
Premise: When the infamous "Sweet Sixteen Killer" returns 35 years after his first murder spree to claim another victim, 17-year-old Jamie accidentally travels back in time to 1987, determined to stop the killer before he can start.
Razzle's Review: Finally got my list completed over the weekend watching the final 2 movies, I'm not sure how this is so highly rated, the plot teeters largely on absurdity and the whole film hinges on a young girl making a time machine as a school science project so her best friend can go back to the 80s to save her mother from dying in 2023. It was ok if you don't activate your brain

Halloween: Renfield (2023)
IMDB Rating: 6.4
Premise: Renfield, Dracula's henchman and inmate at the lunatic asylum for decades, longs for a life away from the Count, his various demands, and all of the bloodshed that comes with them.
Razzle's Review: What a nice way to round this off, really enjoyed this one. Nicolas Cage films can be a bit hit and miss but the supporting cast of Nicholas Hoult and Awkwafina alongside him were brilliant, it was chaotic fun, some nice gore, some good comedy, a little silly but Nicholas Cage as Dracula is just fantastic
