Spread out a bit more, aka filler. Gotcha Yeh like Season 1 of Rings Of Power could condense it to one hour and you still won’t have missed much.

In the most recent episode they spent a whole episode (out of only 8) at Numenor preparing to leave for the Southlands, which they'd agreed to do in the previous episode. We got a well choreographed sword-play scene, but the story didn't move forward a single inch. I MUCH prefer the pacing of HotD.

Ok, he still looks about 15, the same age as the previous actor, whereas Rhaenyra has gone from 15 to 35, hence my confusion. It just felt like a lot to take in after a time jump, you've read the books you're fine, I haven't, I struggled. GofT was criticised at the end for throwing lots of stuff at us in a short time to finish it all. I felt like that in this episode and it's only the first season. I think the actor would be chuffed to hear you think he's so young looking Hehe!

I couldn't really comment on any of the content because I couldn't bloody see any of it! It was almost as dark as the Winterfell episode of GoT season 8!

Yep same I was 40 mins in before I decided to change the screen mode , I don’t know why AP defaults to True Cinema its far to dark most of the time.

Change your settings! It was a cracker. That tense scene of the children all at each others' throats and how it spilled over into the adults was great.

Ah yes, it was quite dark, the worst bit for me was when they were on the beach, I did think about switching the lights off to see if that would improve it. I already have subtitles on to hear what they say (when they're not screaming at each other!)

I rarely watch without subtitles these days (though my husband hates them, as they sometimes ruin punchlines etc)!

Needless to say, the first season ended on dramatic events.
On this episode, I knew from about halfway through the season what event what be closing off the season, and I'd kinda been dreading it because it is pretty horrific (not least for being the final push into all out war, which I guess is what we'll be getting for all following seasons). One of the biggest changes the show-runners made from the books was the context behind that final dragon scene, creating the narrative that the dragons aren't so easily controlled and that this fatality is an accident of sorts. It was set up right at the start of the series with Viserys calling the dragon control an 'illusion' - very interesting take on it and better than the source material imo.
There was one part of this that the book did a little differently, but seems like they definitely decided against that for the show.. not that it has any implication for the story anyway.
The final shot did give me GoT Season 8 vibes though... I half expected bells to start ringing for that final shot, but guess it's just a trigger now.
I cannot work out how many seasons we're going to get for this, or what events would make the best season closers. From the pacing so far it could be 3 or 4 at a push - any more than that and I think they'd be dragging it out far too much. One thing is for sure though, season 2 is going to have to start introducing some new characters to start setting up other elements of the story.
Much stronger than the first season of Game of Thrones for me. Let's hope it's an upwards trajectory.

I suppose one criticism is the level of focus some characters get over others, meaning killing off characters has less impact. It could be intentional though...

Just caught up with the final three episodes. This is a series which just got better and better. Retains many of the best aspects of GoT, but didn't succumb to any of the failings of GoT's final season.
My major quibble, and this is undoubtedly controversial, is that I think Matt Smith is mis-cast. I simply don't find him menacing or creepy enough. All of the female leads, including the youngsters, have been absolutely brilliant. And Rhys Ifans is triumphantly claiming his position as the new Charles Dance.
