35 Hokey Cokey - The Snowmen
I'll start off my saying I actually do like this but purely for the fact that its obviously a punk or new wave band under the suits. Did we ever find out who they were, the theory at school was Ian Dury but he denied it. Ahh according to Google, it was him all along, ahh you see!!! So he is maybe not in the suit but defintely the singer. It is a bit of fun but really still has to be on the list.

33 Seasons of Gold - Gidea Park
OMG its another megamix band but these guys are pretty terrible, when will this stop. This time they are destroying Motown. Please boomers stop buying these revival records. They look like they are from 1972 and not 1981 as well. Oh dear!

32 Hi-De-Hi (Holiday Rock) - Paul Shane
Think I got those last two the other way round, at least they guys no they are a joke. But again more revivalism it was huge in 1981. It was a pretty funny show though, doubt it stands up today though hehe

31 Shaddap You Face - Joe Dolce
Contraversy!! Its not even in the top 30. I loved this, I was annoyed Ultravox didnt get number one but Id rather blame John Lennon, he held them off as well. Yes its very silly, culturely inapprooriate etc but it was so damn catchy. 10 year old me just loved im sorry. But of course again it has to be here somewhere. Sorry so much positivity for a worst list but it knows its bad.

30 Elvira - The Oak Ridge Boys
I dont mind a lot of country music but this US top 10 hit is so bad. If it was about the horror star it might have made it more enjoyable but its not. Its just really annoying country music and that OOompa guy is the worst.

Elvira sounds a lot like a 60s hit but I can't remember which one. I'm sure if I look up the video or wikipedia it will remind me what song it copies. The original goes "Gonna find her.." to the same tune.

Regarding "Hokey Cokey", having established punk or whatever you call them acts do songs like that appears to be a thing around that time. In 1979 we had the Greedies with "A Merry Jingle" although they were quite open that it was Phil Lynott singing and the Sex Pistols providing backing on it.
And of course it later led us to 1984's classic cover of Nellie The Elephant by the Toy Dolls which I hope won't show up on your worst list but you're a cynic with no sense of fun so it probably will, along with every single Black Lace song.

Lol, I am just trying to be for the sake of this list , hard to make if you love everything. And yeh I’m sure there will be way worse songs than Nellie The Elephant in 1984 but if I chose not to include novelty or kids songs, I would just have to include more power ballads and dodgy Rnb and country and we don’t want that, that WOULD suck out the fun. Including them on this list makes the list fun. It’s not serious this whole exercise, You are the one that is getting triggered. Got a surprise at the end which will really annoy you. And anyway how can anyone not to do a worst songs list and not include Black Lace. Really confused or are we to assume that “Agadoo’ is actually a brilliant piece of art, a fine example of novelty songs and they are untouchable for criticism and we all just love it. Or can we say that it is really annoying and makes us want to do very painful things with those pineapples to the creators of the song. You can have both views. Ahh need to use that line later. As I said earlier leaving songs like this out would just mean I’d have to include more less bad songs which may annoy people more.

Yes they are fine for criticism if they are utterly painful with no merit whatsoever. Agadoo is clearly intended for a certain type of event, i.e. a silly beach-party or whatever. The song was originally in French so I don't know if the French lyrics make more sense and they simply put in whatever scanned when they "translated" to English.
For me, I'd rather hear that than much of the "dance" music that came out later which has no tune to sing along to and is just the same thing repeated indefinitely, but became revered "Emperor's New Clothes" style..

29 Endless Love - Lionel Richie, Diana Ross
Yeh so if we take out all the silly and fun novelty records we would have a list of songs like this. I dont want to do that, you dont want to see that. Not much to sayy really, its not my thing, people like these kind of songs and they have a time and place. Its a sickly ballad that was common place in the 80s thats it basically.

28 Norman Bates - Landscape
Einstein a Go was such a good electro pop track, completely mad song and video. This followup is just nowhere in the same league. Its just really boring, the worst thing you can say about it. The pressure to followup a big surprise hit must be tough. This does have its moments the synths are ok later on but its not enough.

27 9 to 5 - Dolly Parton
I could only play 2 seconds of this. Its not meant for me, I am not the target audience. This is MY worst hit songs and this song is defintely not for me. I know it is much loved here but I really cant bear it.

26 Begin the Beguine (Volver a Empezar) - Julio Iglesias
I said the standard of worst song takes a real step up in 1981. This was one of those runacross the room to switch of the radio songs. Ah but my Mum liked it!! Exactly, if my mum likes something then that is a massive red flag!! Again it has a market just wish it wasn't the UK this time

25 How 'Bout Us - Champaign
Yes its dodgy rnb time. If I was the sort of person who chose this as my Wedding song, just disown me. In fact just take me out. This song was loved by those really cringey people who really want you to know 'We're in Love!!' eugh!
I dont dislike Rnb ballads at all, I love Atlantic Starr - Always for example but most of them really make me ill.

24 Bermuda Triangle - Barry Manilow
Really what was Barry on with this song, lets go away to a place where we may disappear forever, thats a romantic destination. I know lets all go to Krakatoa, here it is lovely and warm in all that lava. Really really weird. Its just a very very odd song I dunno.

23 Woman - John Lennon
Yes my solo John Lennon hate continues now a love song about Yoko Ono, just what we all wanted. No. The video is horrific and my ten year old self hated this so much, why was I that way about one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Its just this period and if it wasnt so linked to his tragic death more people might have the same view as me but this era is untouchable for that reason. So hey ho!

22 Pretend - Alvin Stardust
Nobody asked for an Alvin Stardust comeback but in a year so obsessed with 50s and 60s music, its not surprising he jumps on the rocknroll bandwagon. But he is in on the joke as he admits that this is all just an act, he is pretending so do we let him off. No we dont.
