Second entry for the Big O
(no tittering at the back)
Quality performer once again tugs at the heart strings with a fairly melancholic tale

Quite simply a great lyric and melody
Those boys - forget the name - knew how to write a great song - and show or two!
Julie Covington was magnificnet on this track.
Do any of you remember her in Rock Follies (also featured Rula Lenska).

So here we are
the top ten
10CC - has to be a guy's song with those lyrics
truly brilliant
"big boys don't cry, big boys don't cry"
and my favourite lines
"I keep your picture Upon the wall It hides a nasty stain that's lying there So don't you ask me To give it back I know you know it doesn't mean that much to me"

It's Cliff
His first #1 and what a cracker. Lionel Bart composition.
It is so good it even survived the destruction by the Young Ones all those years later. And raised money for a good cause.
As one of the lads commented - locking a girl up in a trunk wasn't too politically correct but we know that with Cliff there was no malice meant.
Get Down.

pure coincidence that Cliff is followed by Roy Orbison.
Outstanding contributions by both artists to my countdown.
For Roy its the third in my Top Thirty and scond in the Top Twenty.
These songs just transcend time. They are ageless.
The opening of this song just hooks you - line and sinker. Fabulous song. Fabulous singer.

I agree with you on Travellin' Light - one of Cliff's most under-rated records.

Freda Payne is one of those that just reaches out and grabs you - if only Diana Ross had got it.

#6
I am unabashed by the fact that Johnny Mathis takes the #6 spot.
It is in my estimation the finest Christmas song of the last thirty years.
White Christmas is a classic but wasn't eligible for this list.
Its a brilliant song, so perfect for the season and Mathis has a great delivery.
Even carries off the speaking section and that is very tricky.
A truly wonderful song.

Just something about the Bryan Adams record. Brilliant voice and even after 15 or 16 weeks at #1 you still weren't sick of it.

I had a good idea Livin' Doll would be your top Cliff pick. I go for We Don't Talk. I was in tears when it hit #1.

But you've completely thrown me with Chris de Burgh and Jihnny Mathis. The other Forum must be getting to you. lol.

Unchained Melody is a real classic but I'm a Philistine - I should probably be ashamed to admit it but I prefer Robson and Jerome.

Whitney's was also good but I did prefer the Dolly Parton original which did nothing.
