The scheduling sounds like it needs a review for next season.

The scheduling sounds like it needs a review for next season. I do sometimes wonder whether clubs get a say in when their match is moved to, or whether they're contractually obliged to accept any fixture change, even when it means playing 2 games in 3 days. There have been a few fixtures moved due to TV, and then moved again because of congestion - at the start of this season, Arsenal-Spurs was scheduled for Sun 21 Nov, but a note was put onto the website saying that it would be moved to Sat 20 Nov if either team had a CL match on the Tuesday (this ended up happening). This doesn't seem to apply to FA cup matches. I believe that we did have the option of moving the Everton game to Wednesday, but chose not to in order to keep the extra day's rest before the long trip to Newcastle. But in that case, the Everton game wasn't scheduled for TV.

A few years ago, Arsenal ended up a round behind after a replay got postponed. The 4th round replay was shown live on 5th round weekend, and the 5th round tie was shown live on 6th round weekend. Chelsea could have serious fixture congestion problems. The replay can't be played before the 5th round weekend because even though they don't have a European game in the midweek before the 5th round game (Man City do), but their league match is on the Monday. You'd think they could move the league game to the Saturday, then play the replay on the Wednesday. Their fixture list as it stands: Tue 1 Feb - Sunderland (a) Sun 6 - Liverpool (h) (Wed 9 - interlull) Mon 14 - Fulham (a) Sat 19 - Everton (h) (FA R4R) Tue 22 - FC Copenhagen (a) (CL R1L1) (Sat 26 - game vs Birmingham postponed due to Carling Cup final - presumably reading can't play then) Tue 1 Mar - Man Utd (h) Mon 7 - Blackpool (a) (Sat 12 - FA 5th round v Reading? this is 6th round day) Wed 16 - FC Copenhagen (h) (CL R1L2) Sun 20 - Man City (h) (interlull) Sat 2 Apr - Stoke (a) 5/6 Apr - CL QF L1 Sat 9 Apr - Wigan (h) 12/13 Apr - CL QF L2 Sat 16 Apr - West Brom (a) or FA Semi final So if they progress to the FA cup quarter final and the CL quarter final (which looks very likely), they'll have to move one of their precious Monday matches, or the FA cup semi final will be postponed until the following midweek - if they do this, and then get to the FA cup final and CL semi final, then their end of season will be intense: Sat 30 Apr - Spurs (h) 3/4 May - CL SF L2 Sat 7 May - Man Utd (a) Tue 10 May - Birmingham (h) Sat 14 May - FA cup final Tue 17 May - Newcastle (h) Thu 19 May - West Brom (a) Sun 22 May - Everton (a) And that's without any further replays. They'd better hope they don't get that far! I thought the 5th rd game may be played on the 26th Feb too (therefore postponing the Palace away game which was thinking of going to, as it is prob won't be going to that game, prob wouldn't be able to get tickets anyway) but as you later say its been scheduled for 1st March live on ESPN (irrelevant as haven't got this but got a few options in mind). So if Chelsea get through then they could be facing Man Utd twice in the space of a month, and i've got a feeling they may well draw them in the cup as well!

Wow, Everton win 4-3 on penalties. Chelsea's season seems to be getting worse, although they did beat us 7-0 last round!

So pleased Everton got through! Ashley Cole missing the crucial pen, couldn't happen to a nicer chap! Apparently Chelsea have lost in their last SEVEN penalty shootouts! Birmingham and Stoke both 2-0 up in their games.

I liked the way Everton had a goal disallowed because Fellaini's hair was offside.

I see captain John Terry led by example and did not take a penalty.

Undecided about whether i'm glad we got Everton or not. Chelsea would have been a tastier tie (don't like them and given the reaction i got from a Chelsea fan i met last year when mentioning i was a Reading fan the feeling is prob mutual) but Everton i would expect to be a closer tie..although on current form Everton don't have much to worry about! They should have a comfortable passage through to the QFs.
Oh, and pointless that the QF draw is being made this afternoon when 3/4 ties haven't even been played yet. I'll prob see it when catching up with today's games on the highlights show - having not bothered with the highlights show yesterday after following the BBC text commentary while out/watching Utd-Crawley 2nd half. Did catch the Everton equaliser and the crucial penalties on the news last night anyway - but it just feels more insignificant than it would normally be and tbh prob won't pay much attention.

So if Burnley go out tomorrow, assume Reading will be the lowest placed team left in it?

Oh and Notts County didn't deserve that scoreline, very harsh!

So if Burnley go out tomorrow, assume Reading will be the lowest placed team left in it? You're prob right there actually, hadn't thought of that before. Oh, and without knowing the score, and not wanting to know either sounds like a decent number of goals to see in the Man City game on the highlights show later.

Arsenal clash with both the City game and Celtic-Rangers, but I'll be in London so hopefully will see it somewhere. Possibly N5 but money's looking tight and I want to save my money for the league games. I have seen games in CL, league and carling cup (and a friendly) so might be nice to complete the set... hmmm....
