No-one is really surprised though are they? I was expecting a whitewash, unless the weather saves us in one test and we somehow get a draw.

Australia well on top after day 2, finishing on 343-7, a lead of 196. England had got themselves back into the match with three quick wickets to leave Australia on 195-5 but Travis Head's 85-ball century looks to have put the game out of England's reach.

I was torn between predicting a 200 run lead, or a 300 run lead. Leach 11 overs for 95 runs, I really dont understand his inclusion, or bowling so early in a test, probably passed momentum back to the Aussies?

We have a test match on... Excellent fightback by England with Root and Malan putting on an unbeaten 159 for the 3rd wicket to take England to 220-2, just 58 behind Australia after they were all out for 425. How England cope with the new ball tomorrow will be crucial.

FFS.
Malan and Root couldn't even make it to the new ball. You can guess the rest.

2nd test underway shortly. Australia captain Pat Cummins misses the test after being identified as a close contact of someone who tested positive for Covid. Michael Neser makes his debut in his place and Steve Smith skippers the side.
For England, James Anderson is expected to play, with Mark Wood not in the 12-man squad. It's expected the Adelaide wicket will offer something for the spinners so Jack Leach may keep his place, with Stuart Broad possibly missing out again.

Australia win the toss and will bat on a flat looking pitch.
Two changes for each side. Neser and Jhye Richardson come in for Australia in place of Cummins and the injured Hazlewood.
For England, Anderson and Broad both play with Leach dropped, meaning Joe Root effectively becomes the main (only?) spinner.

A little bit of fight shown to take the match to the final session but this England team simply isn't good enough.

4 changes for England as they desperately try to save the series. Crawley, Bairstow, Wood and Leach are in for Burns, Pope, Woakes and Broad.
Australia won the toss and will bowl first in what look to be very favourable bowling conditions at the MCG.

As Christmas is a time of goodwill to all men etc, so lets focus on some positives shall we?
Errr, England have been undeniably consistent for quite some time now Down Under .....

I did the same bet I did on the first morning of the series. Bloody Root...

England's best chance of avoiding a 5-0 series whitewash appears to have gone after all players returned negative Covid tests ahead of the start of play on Day 3.

Woke up this morning. Turned on my phone and saw the outcome. There are no words to describe that abject performance. But there is a song that can:

It's funny how they replaced certain players who weren't good enough, and those that came in are part of this performance. Imagine what it will be like with no Anderson to actually take wickets as well. Like I've said many times though, it is no surprise to me at all, we are p*ss poor away from our shores and not much better on them.

Like I've said many times though, it is no surprise to me at all, we are p*ss poor away from our shores and not much better on them. I'm less concerned about the bowling. Obviously, Anderson will be missed when he's gone but he took 7 wickets in 3 innings across the two tests he's played in this series. The batting is a far bigger worry. 6 innings in this series and the average score is 188. I think Root may relinquish the captaincy after this series but the question is who takes over? They'll probably give it to Stokes as he's probably the only other player guaranteed to get into the team when fit but is he an improvement as captain? Not from what I've seen. The only other option among the current squad seems to be Buttler and his place in the side looks increasingly insecure.

4th test underway after a rain delay. Australia won the toss and are batting. Broad in for Robinson is the only change for England.

Australia 126-3 after a rain-affected first day. Meanwhile, Bangladesh beat world test champions New Zealand (in New Zealand) for the first time, winning by 8 wickets after being set 40 for victory.

Dismal.
Even Novak Djokovic has had a more successful visit to Australia than the England Cricket Test team this winter.
