The 1st test against New Zealand is underway at Lord's and, as so often happens in the first test of the summer, the side batting first has been skittled. Thankfully, that was New Zealand after they chose to bat having won the toss. They were bowled out for just 132, with debutant Matty Potts taking 4-13. Jimmy Anderson took 4-66, with a wicket each for Broad and Stokes. Colin de Grandhomme top scored for NZ with 42 not out, but Tim Southee was the only other player to make more than 20.
You can never really gauge the situation until England have batted but they've started well, reaching 55-0.
England team: Crawley, Lees, Pope, Root, Bairstow, Stokes (c), Foakes (w), Potts, Broad, Anderson, Leach
Jack Leach started the game but took a tumble while fielding and subsequently failed a concussion test. Under the concussion substitution rules, a like-for-like replacement can come into the team, so spinner Matt Parkinson will join up with the team to make his debut. Unlike regular substitute fielders, concussion substitutes can bat and bowl as well.

Sublime to the ridiculous, but I'm no longer surprised by it...

An amazing test match that went back and forth for the first three days ends with England wrapping up a 5-wicket victory before lunch on Day 4. It looked all over early on Day 3 with New Zealand on 251-4 but a "team hat-trick", which saw England take three wickets in three balls (the second being a run out) sparked a fightback and New Zealand were all out for 285, leaving England 277 to win. England struggled early on and were 76-4 when Ben Stokes was dismissed for 1, only to be reprieved because Colin de Grandhomme had overstepped. Stokes and Root would go on to make a 5th-wicket partnership of 90, putting England in a strong position. Root reached his hundred and in the process, 10,000 test runs, and he and Ben Foakes saw England home with little trouble in gloomy conditions.
England lead the three-match series 1-0, with the second test starting at Trent Bridge on Friday.

In an interesting 2nd test at Trent Bridge with all three outcomes still possible.
New Zealand made 553 in their 1st innings after being put in on a batting-friendly pitch. But England's reply is going well, reaching 473-5 at the close, thanks to centuries from Pope and Root, with the former captain unbeaten on 163.

Exciting finish in store at Trent Bridge. England 36-1 chasing 299 to beat New Zealand. Crawley is the man out so it barely counts.

England pull off a spectacular run chase to beat New Zealand by 5 wickets, clinching the series in the process. Jonny Bairstow hit England's 2nd-fastest test hundred, eventually making 136 from just 92 balls. Ben Stokes hit an unbeaten 75 as England reached their target with 17 overs to spare.

Test Match Cricket. Bloody Hell.
That last session (which I watched after finishing work and moving from "my office" in the kitchen to the living room) was was a worthy end to a magnificent test match.

England smash a world record 498-4 from their 50 overs in the first ODI against Netherlands, beating their own record of 481.
It may seem a pointless fixture but this series counts towards World Cup qualification and despite none of the current test squad being available, it's still a very strong England side.

As expected, a lopsided victory for England, winning by 232 runs. Centuries for Salt, Malan and Buttler (whose hundred came in just 47 balls) and an unbeaten 50 from Livingstone. Good to see Moeen Ali among the wickets during the Dutch innings.

Good effort by Netherlands in the 2nd ODI against England, making 235-7 from 41 overs (reduced after a delayed start due to rain). England should still chase that down but they aren't quite as strong batting second so a couple of early wickets could make things interesting.

Another amazing test match taking place at Headingley with so many momentum shifts. England reduced New Zealand to 123-5 but Daryl Mitchell's century helped them to 329 all out. In reply, England were reeling on 55-6 but an unbeaten 7th wicket stand of 209 between Jonny Bairstow and debutant Jamie Overton have put the game right back in the balance. Bairstow will resume on 130 on Saturday, with Overton on 89.

I haven't done a session-by-session score for a while (mainly thanks to England's regular Ashes thrashings down under) but the breakdown of this test is insane.
DAY 1 Morning: NZ 65-3 (England's session) Afternoon: NZ 58-2 (England's session) Evening: NZ 102-0 (NZ's session)
DAY 2 Morning: NZ 100-3 (NZ's session) Afternoon: NZ 4-2 all out, England 91-6 (NZ's session) Evening: England 173-0 (England's session)

Another great batting performance to clinch a 3-0 series victory over the World Test champions.
Across the whole match, New Zealand scored 655 runs from 223 overs. England scored 656 from just 121 overs - a phenomenal scoring rate for a test match.
England's next match is the postponed final test from last summer against India at Edgbaston, starting on Friday. India lead the series 2-1.
Meanwhile, England's women started their one-off test against South Africa today. Batting first, South Africa were 89-5 but 150 from Marizanne Kapp helped them to 284 all out.

England's World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has announced his retirement from international cricket.
He is England's leading run scorer in both ODI and T20 cricket, but had struggled with form and fitness recently, making only one 50 in his last 26 innings and being dismissed for 0 in the two matches he played in the recent series against the Netherlands. He made 340 appearances for England across the two white ball formats, as well playing 16 tests. He previously won 23 ODI caps for Ireland before switching to play for England.
Jos Buttler is likely to succeed Morgan as England's limited overs captain.
