England wrap up an excellent win early on day 4. After Stuart Broad caused havoc early in New Zealand's second innings, it was Jimmy Anderson who did the damage today, taking 4-18 as England bowled NZ out for 126, winning by 267 runs.
Meanwhile at the Women's T20 World Cup, England had an excellent win over India yesterday to make it 3 wins out of 3 and meaning they are likely to avoid favourites Australia in the semis. England's place in the final four was confirmed today after Pakistan lost to the West Indies.

New Zealand win an amazing second test by 1 run! They posted 483 in the 2nd innings after being asked to follow on, giving England a target of 258. England were in trouble at 80-5 but Root and Stokes put on 121 for the 6th wicket. At 215-8, NZ were favourites again but Foakes got England to within touching distance of victory until he was caught for 35. It was up to Jack Leach and Jimmy Anderson to get the winning runs and a four from Anderson took England to within 2 of their target but he was caught just one ball after an over-head-height bouncer that the umpire failed to call a wide. New Zealand are the fourth team in the history of test cricket to win after following on. The other three were England v Australia in Sydney in 1894, England v Australia at Headingley in 1981 and India v Australia in Kolkata in 2001. Another remarkable test match for this England team and the series ends 1-1.
Next it's a ODI and T20 series in Bangladesh, starting on Wednesday, then a couple of months off ahead of a one-off test against Ireland, followed by the Ashes.

England won their ODI series in Bangladesh 2-1. England won the first two games - the first a low scoring encounter which England won by 3 wickets, before a comprehensive 132-run win in the second game. Bangladesh avoided a whitewash in the final game by bowling England out for 196 to win by 50 runs. Having become England's youngest male test player late last year, spinner Rehan Ahmed made his debut in the third game to become England's youngest male ODI player.

England's series win in Bangladesh moves them to the top of the Super League standings, which acts as World Cup qualifying for the top 13 nations. The top 8 qualify directly for the World Cup later this year, while the other 5 must take part in the Cricket World Cup Qualifier to try and grab one of the two remaining spots.
Standings: (games played-points scored) 10 points for a win, 5 for a tie or no result, teams are deducted a point for a slow over rate during a game
1. England (Q) 24-155 2. New Zealand (Q) 21-150 3. India (Q) 21-139 4. Bangladesh (Q) 21-130 5. Pakistan (Q) 21-130 6. Australia (Q) 18-120 7. Afghanistan (Q) 15-115 8. West Indies 24-88 ------------------------ 9. South Africa 19-78 10. Sri Lanka 21-77 11. Ireland 21-68 12. Zimbabwe 21-45 13. Netherlands 19-25
The West Indies currently sit in the 8th and final automatic qualification spot but are likely to be leapfrogged by either South Africa, who have two matches coming up against the Netherlands, or Sri Lanka, if they can win their upcoming series against New Zealand. Ireland also have a mathematical chance but would need a 3-0 clean sweep against Bangladesh in May.
The World Cup Qualifier will consist of 10 teams - the bottom 5 from the above list, plus 5 qualifiers from the lower tiers of ODI cricket. Oman and Scotland have already booked their places by finishing as the top 2 in League 2, with either Namibia or Nepal set to join them. Whichever one of Namibia or Nepal doesn't make it will go into a playoff tournament later this month along with Canada, Jersey, Papua New Guinea, the UAE and the USA with the top 2 going into the World Cup Qualifier tournament, which takes place in Zimbabwe in June.

South Africa have clinched the last automatic spot at the World Cup after Ireland's first ODI against Bangladesh was abandoned. Ireland needed a 3-0 series victory to stand any chance of moving ahead of South Africa in the Super League table and even moved the series to England in the hopes of reducing the chances of it being impacted by the weather.
Ireland will now go to the World Cup Qualifier tournament next month, where they'll be joined by hosts Zimbabwe, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal, Oman, UAE and USA, with two qualification places up for grabs.
If the West Indies and Sri Lanka qualify, it will mean this year's World Cup will feature the same 10 teams as the 2019 edition.

The England squad has been announced for the one-off four-day Test against Ireland at Lord's, starting on the 1st of June. The big story is Jonny Bairstow returns to the side after recovering from his broken leg and will keep wicket, meaning no place for Ben Foakes, despite some very good performances. The other headline is that Jofra Archer has suffered a recurrence of the stress fracture in his elbow and will miss the entire summer and is a major doubt for the World Cup later this year. Jimmy Anderson has a groin injury and is unlikely to feature against Ireland with the Ashes starting just two weeks later. Chris Woakes, who hasn't played for England since the coach/captain duo of McCullum and Stokes took over, is recalled. Ollie Pope has been named as vice-captain.

Good start for England with Broad reducing Ireland to 19-3. There was a bit of a fightback but Leach struck before lunch to leave Ireland on 78-4.

Complete domination from England, declaring on 524-4, having bowled Ireland out for 172 yesterday. Pope made 205, Duckett 182 and there were 50s for Crawley and Root. Ireland are 26-2, needing 352 just to avoid an innings defeat. Josh Tongue has taken his first wickets for England and Ireland have also lost James McCollum to injury.
England's run rate for their innings was 6.33 per over.

A comfortable win for England in the end but Ireland batted very well on day 3 to avoid an innings defeat with Mark Adair scoring 88 (batting at 9) and Andrew McBrine 86 not out. Josh Tongue took 5-66 to earn a place on the honours board at Lord's. Chasing 11 to win, Zak Crawley needed just 4 balls to secure a 10-wicket win.
Ben Stokes becomes the first captain who isn't a wicketkeeper to win a test match without batting or bowling.
England have named an unchanged 16-man squad for the first two Ashes tests.

Jack Leach has been ruled out of the Ashes due to a stress fracture of his back. England's spinner options appear limited so the question will be do they call another one up or go with four fast bowlers + Stokes?

Gutted for Jack Leech, a big blow for England's Ashes chances.
Personally, I would give a call to Moeen Ali to see if he wants to come out of Red Ball retirement. However, I reckon Stokes/McCullum will go for the youngster Rehan Ahmed over Liam Dawson.

Moeen Ali comes out of test retirement to join England's Ashes squad. There's no doubt he's the best spinner England have in Leach's absence and he also strengthens the batting line-up as he will probably bat at 8. How crucial his role is may well hinge on whether or not Ben Stokes is able to bowl.

The Ashes is underway at Edgbaston. England won the toss and are batting, reaching 124-3 at lunch. Australia set up the field to limit boundaries, meaning England haven't scored at their usual rapid rate but have taken the easy singles on offer. Australia probably the happier team with the 3 wickets they've taken.

England declare on 393-8 with half an hour left on day 1. An unbeaten century for Joe Root.

It might backfire, but I love the fact England are messing with the Aussies heads with that declaration.
