Apparently the other 4 English teams will announce they are to withdraw from the ESL as well.

Every club seeming to be rushing to announce they are leaving the ESL / or never signed up to it in the first place like Barcelona! Begs the question if we'll ever know who the other 3 founding members were...

It looks like Man Citeh & Chelski have pulled out. I'll put money that within 24 hours the European Super League will be history. You were about 21 hours out.

Begs the question if we'll ever know who the other 3 founding members were... I don't think they'd been decided. I'm sure they'd been trying to persuade several clubs to join but without any success outside of the initial 12. The entire Bundesliga said no, Ajax said no, Porto said no, as did PSG. I think they would've had to persuade additional teams from Spain and Italy to make up the 15 "founders" or possibly even somewhere like Turkey.

It all fell totally flat.
There may be reasons to change the structure of the Champions League, to improve it in some way or whatever, but making an elitist competition is what has caused everyone to go "up in arms".
For any competition, you have to qualify on merit. Germany and Brazil have no divine right to compete in the World Cup finals, for example, just because they've won it so many times and been successful in it.
I can sort of see how, with Manchester City as successful as they are, they want to be playing more games against big clubs (so our few big ones plus others around Europe) and I'd like to see the same regarding England and international football, but elevating themselves to a level other clubs can't possibly attain to is not the way to do it.
Matches between the best teams aren't always the most exciting either. And fans will want to watch the matches between the top clubs by those having proved themselves to be the top clubs.
Therefore my own suggestion is a "Swiss-style" tournament that has qualification every season, where you can follow your own team, possibly by subscribing to a stream and where the top matches are available on TV channels. Such a tournament is not a knock-out but a series of games where you progress up and down the table, and play teams close to yourselves. At the end of this competition, the next year, those who finished above a certain threshold would qualify to play in it again, regardless of their domestic season. The rest would use their domestic competitions to determine who qualifies.

The new Champions League format, due to start in 2023, has a Swiss-style 10-game group stage - so we'll finally see how this works in practice.

That's assuming UEFA don't just scrap it now the ESL has died on its arse. They only came up with the format changes in an attempt to stop the ESL from being formed in the first place.
Meanwhile, it looks like Dublin is set to miss out on being a Euro 2020 host as the Irish government can't guarantee allowing 25% capacity inside the Aviva Stadium in June. It's scheduled to host three group games plus the last 16 match involving the winners of England and Scotland's group.

The draws for the Olympic football tournaments have been made today. The men's competition is a 16-team U23 tournament with each squad allowed three over age players. The women's tournament has no age limit and features 12 teams. Great Britain is taking part in the women's event after England finished as one of the top 3 European teams at the last World Cup but players from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are eligible to play as well. MEN'S: GROUP A Japan South Africa Mexico France GROUP B New Zealand South Korea Honduras Romania GROUP C Egypt Spain Argentina Australia GROUP D Brazil Germany Ivory Coast Saudi Arabia WOMEN'S: GROUP E Japan Canada Great Britain Chile GROUP F China Brazil Zambia Netherlands GROUP G Sweden USA Australia New Zealand Brazil won gold in the men's tournament five years ago, beating Germany in the final. Nigeria beat Honduras for the bronze medals. Germany won gold in the women's tournament, beating Sweden (who'd knocked the USA out on penalties in the quarters) in the final but they can't defend their title as they only reached the quarter-finals of the last World Cup. Canada beat Brazil for bronze. GB will be managed by Norwegian Hege Riise who is the current interim England manager. Dutch coach Sarina Wiegman, who led her team to the last World Cup final, will take over as England boss after the Olympics and will be in charge for next year's European Championship, which is in England (and for which Northern Ireland have qualified for the first time).

So you did not see Jurgen Klopp's Monday interview classic example of using words which could be taken as neutral diplomacy, whilst saying them in a way & manner watching that even Stevie Wonder could see he was clearly absolutely fuming. (Never mind had ESL gone into existence he would be manager of Bayern Munich next season from the information that hs come out in the last 24 hours, and still may well happen, as he is seriously p*ssed off at having been disrespected & shatt on by John Henry & co). Where only that useless notorious & utterly discredited anti-Liverpool idiot Paul Scholes (Funny how I respected him as a player, whilst thinking Gary Neville was an idiot, and now realize I got the pair of them completely wrong as human beings) took as being not against the ESL.
All for that matter James Milner's unequivocal post match "I don't like it, and I hope it don't happen" interview.

Dublin and Bilbao have lost their Euro 2020 matches due to Covid restrictions. Dublin's group games will now be played in St. Petersburg and its last 16 game will be at Wembley. All of Bilbao's matches have been moved to Seville.

Away from the ESL debacle, it's the sharp end of the EFL season, and much could be confirmed this weekend. - Championship: Watford will seal an immediate PL return if they win, or if they draw and other results go their way.
- Wycombe and Sheff Wed could both be relegated this weekend
- League One: Hull will be up if they win at rivals Lincoln
- Bristol Rovers and Swindon will both be relegated unless they make up ground on those above them
- League Two: Cambridge will be promoted if they win and Bolton or Morecambe lose
- Grimsby and Southend could both be relegated this weekend. Southend were only relegated into League Two last season, and have been in the football league since 1920.

Be a shame to lose the Codheads, but looks inevitable Only did their ground fairly recently as well Have to hope Hartlepool make a return to replace them.

Great result Robbie, and totally deserved after the VAR disallowed goal just a minute before your legit goal.

Southend were my grandfather's team - and would have been mine if I had based it on the team nearest to where I was born.
