Haven Time Machine and Haven Idol are great competitions. No need to blend them into one with a gimmicky theme like One Hit Wonders. It's a big "no" from me for earl purple's latest idea. Im with you. Its a no from me as well.
Time Machine & Idol are great as they are

Lets just skip it for this year as there is plenty of other contests waiting to go and i dont mean new
ones made up every week by earl purple I'd agree. I never saw Summer Anthems as an ongoing contest rather just a one-off.

I agree, Halloween, Xmas and Euro/lingo vision is enough for the yearly contests
We have a lot to fit in

For me, a single One Hit Wonders round would be enough as part of a Pop Pourri contest or something, rather than as a whole contest.
Or even a round that is acts who are One Hit Wonders, but you can't pick the obvious hit!

Yes but I quite liked the concept of keeping everyone in the same era of music for a particular round, whilst at the same time not picking the massive artists of the day.
It could be 13 rounds (1956 up to 2019 in groups of 5) or 14 rounds (1952 up to 2021 in groups of 5), the latter as a kind of celebration of 70 years of charts.
If that's too many it could of course be shorted to just 7 rounds, in "decades" (or 52-61, 62-71, 72-81 etc)

Your idea sounds like a special edition of Time Machine, you can try to host it somewhere in the next year.

Well I say if you want to make a variation on an existing game, you need to win a game ior at least be a sub host. There is just no room for slightly tweaked games.

Well what’s the problem then

Well what’s the problem then None, I can host the next "idol" which could be one-hit wonder idol, and I quite like my idea of 7 rounds as 14 is a lot.
1952-1961 1962-1971 1972-1981 1982-1991 1992-2001 2002-2011 and 2012-2021
possibly after this year has finished.
and maybe one special extra round of one-hit wonders but not their one hit. (one-hit wonder vision)

I'd be out of my depth with anything pre-80s so wouldn't take part. You'd just have to find something for each of the first 2 rounds, as the 1972-81 on does run into part of the 80s.
I'm the same about the later years but having a whole decade (2012-2021) makes it a lot easier for me than only half of one (2017-2021)
I intend to be quite permissive, so not combining a band and their members, i.e. if a solo artist had one hit himself and others as part of a band, he would still count. Similarly if they are a bona-fide band but one of the members had solo hits. For that purpose, I'd assume if you saw the band live you wouldn't expect them to play lots of songs by the member who had solo hits.

I struggle with anything pre Beatles, really bad but most 50s seems the same to me, well it’s either rock roll or that crooner, post war jazz sound neither I’m much of a fan of. So finding a one hit wonder if like seems pretty slim. I’d rather do a hidden treasures for 50s than pick from the very limited charts at the time

I’d rather do a hidden treasures for 50s than pick from the very limited charts at the time So you'd rather have to pick 8 songs from the 50s than just one, which could be from 1960 or 1961 anyway according to my rules?
For that era a one-hit wonder had one single reach the top 30. They can have others that peaked between 31 and 50 once the chart became a top 50 in early 1960.
This will happen after 70s Time Machine which you are going to run after Haven Factor, so there is a lot of time, given the pre-warning, to find something from the decades you don't know that well, which appears to many to just be the very early ones, and for some may be the most recent one.

I won’t enter a Time Machine 50s or similar , really not my thing I covered the 50s in my retro charts but only went back to the end of 1955, because I wanted rock & roll and Elvis Presley in particular who I knew would make his debut in 1956, although of course I still got all the Alma Cogan hits etc from that time and felt myself at times wanting to go back a bit further to hear more music by those artists.
I think finding one one-hit wonder from 1952-1961 with this much advanced notice should be within the capability of most people entering the contest, and I'll use a Shireblogger method of "keep duplicates vs play second choice" for those who don't want to find more than one song.
The big objection of my original plan was that it had too many rounds, so I've pretty much halved that and I think it will work well now.
