One Marvin through, what about the other one?
Actually I had a bad feeling about him the other day because he died the day after my 19th birthday. And my son's 19th birthday was Thursday just gone.

Put me down for Stereophonics next year. You may end up winning the contest in which case you'll be running it.

Ok, two out of three remaining were not bad enough to be in the sing-off... and one of those is
Meat Loaf

There is no specific order as such as to which one I name first. It isn't necessarily the case that the last one I reveal as black was the closest to the sing-off.

All the votes are in, you can start speculating already.
2 songs failed to get 6 points from anyone, but only one of those is in the sing-off.

We could enter it for next year's Eurovision. It can't do much worse than some of our recent performances.
(That isn't a lyrical line)

There have been very few seasons where the Premier League title was decided on the final day of the season but the obviously memorable season was 1988-89 when Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-0 away with a last minute goal by Michael Thomas that won the league for them.
That was quite an exciting turn of events as Liverpool had won the title 10 times since Arsenal had last won it in 1971.
Arsenal won the title again in 1991 and then 3 times between 1998 and 2004, the last being the "invincible" season but in particular at that time they were the only team preventing Manchester United totally dominating the league, and now we hope Arsenal can stop Manchester City dominating.
Will Spurs play for their North London rivals? Well firstly if Liverpool win at Aston Villa (or at least draw there) that increases the chance of Spurs reaching the Champions League. Spurs only need one point from the last 2 games to ensure 5th and should get a result away at Sheffield United, so that's pretty much guaranteed, but they can still have a shot at 4th place if Villa fail to beat Liverpool as the difference is just 4 points.
In 1998, the most competitive of the relegated 3 were Bolton who went down only on goal difference to Everton, and were a point ahead on the final game. Everton drew 1-1 at home against Coventry but Bolton lost at Chelsea. Bolton had won the Championship the previous season in style and therefore we thought they might have been a lot more competitive in the Premier League than they were in the 1995-96 season but they were not. Of course they would eventually go back up in 2001 and stay there 11 seasons.
In 1998 it also happened that 2 of the 3 relegated teams went back up. Two of those automatically, but when Charlton beat Sunderland on penalties in the playoff final after a 4-4 draw, it prevented the latter from going straight back up. Sunderland did go up the following season with more than 100 points and would have a good first season but slipped back to relegation in 2003.
The 1997-98 season had actually seen Manchester United about 12 points clear at Christmas but fail to win the title. So in spite of what happened at the bottom, there was some excitement near the top.

I guess that anyone who plans to mentor Stereophonics in a future contest is looking out how Rod Stewart does this round. If he isn't in the sing-off, where exactly he finished will be revealed at the end of the contest.

Nottingham Forest might stay up with just 29 points? Even without the deduction they'd only have 33. The record is West Brom with 34 in 2005.
This shows how bad last year's 3 promoted teams have been, in a year after which all 3 had stayed up.

I didnt say it on Saturday : We are Premier League That a team can still go from League One to Premier League with back-to-back promotions gives everyone else hope, as well as Luton achieving it albeit there were 4 seasons between the two promotions. Many believe that the parachute payments make the Premier League clubs that drop down too competitive, at least in the first couple of seasons. We've seen yo-yo teams like Norwich and maybe now Burnley and Sheffield United. We'll await to see if either Leeds or Southampton regain their Premier League status after one season or whether one of Norwich and West Brom go up, but both of those were in the Premier League not that long ago. Of course I'm sure you're hoping it won't be Norwich. As someone who always goes to about 5-6 home games per season that fall on Tuesday nights regardless of what division we are in, my worry is that if we did get into the Premier League it would become impossible to get tickets for those games. My consistent 5-6 games a season would give me enough "loyalty" points as they don't quite get the situation that I can't attend Saturday games.

I thought the Jam would have had a good chance of winning with the right song choices, but you have to know what those are.
I'd consider "massive" songs would be Going Underground and Town Called Malice, and "big" songs to be That's Entertainment, Eton Rifles and The Bitterest Pill. Although Start was a UK #1 I'd rank it lower along with Beat Surrender.
Of the first 8 singles, I'd rank Down In The Tube Station At Midnight as the only "big" one but I do also like "Strange Down" and I wonder if it doing so badly was because it wasn't such a big song in "Jam" terms.
I normally say a bit about the act, but the Jam don't really need much introduction here - Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler, started having hits in 1977 but it was 1980 when they became huge with "Going Underground" entering at #1, the first of 4, and the album "The Gift" reached #1 in 1982. I'll hopefully say something about Curve tomorrow evening. This was well-guessed in the match-up predicta, 6 of them.
