Watching the ladies' biathlon at the moment and wondering what is intrinsically 'winter sports' about the shooting component of this sport? Cold fingers? LOL

The handshakes come after the 8th end. Canada win 9-3 and GB have to settle for silver. Credit to Canada - they dominated right from the start, while GB just never got going. Silver's still a great achievement though.

Silver's still a great achievement though. Agreed. Silver is a brilliant result, and the team deserve a great reception when they return to Scotland. No doubt our resident curling expert will demand they get put in the stocks and showered with rotten fruit for letting down the country so humiliatingly. But, of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Anyone else watching the men's hockey? BBC2's just gone live to the final period. They've been concentrating on the speed skating.

Gutted for Elise, when the professionals cant really find fault, you do wonder what is going on!

Gutted for Elise, when the professionals cant really find fault, you do wonder what is going on! It was a case of something very common in sport of the big fish getting the rub of the green at the expense of the minnows. Of the 44 Short Track Speed Skating Gold Medals 28 of the 44 Gold Medals have been won by either China or South Korea. To date Great Britain has won 0 Gold Medals, and just 1 Bronze in 1994. In the Woman's 1000m 16 or the previous 18 medals (& all 6 Gold's) had been won by either South Korea or China. She was disqualified in the first event for hitting someone on the outside when coming from behind on the inside, when the skater in front blocked her coming through. She was disqualified in the this third event for being hit by someone on the inside trying to come back through, when she blocked (for what she has been officially DSQ'd for) that skater trying to come through. Both cannot possibly be correct decisions. Of course in the final we had another South Korean & Chinese 1-2-3 in the final. The one non East Asian (the USA skater) with a chance of winning in the final was "removed" when the Chinese skater grabbed her arm, so causing her to lose her momentum & speed and went from 2nd to 4th in a matter of metres. Of course the Chinese skater who did that arm tug finished second and was not DSQ'd..... Much like Olympics Boxing, and to a less extent Figure Skating, the Winter Olympics Short Track Speed Skating Event has always had more than its fair share of bewildering official decision makings. Unfortunately, like we see in the Premiership Football virtually every weekend a controversial key decision has gone against the minnow, and in favour of one of the (two) big fish (China-South Korea).

Maybe we should just build a long track facility in this country and concentrate on that instead so we can try and do what Holland did, who themselves were effectively following the GB track cycling blueprint.
Although the chances of something like that being built are slim when outdoor running tracks are getting demolished left, right and centre.

rubcale in irrational hatred of pretty young sportswoman shocker. Typical. Focusing on the failures of someone who's had a degree of success in a sport she's already admitted she knows absolutely nothing about. It is a key part of the Olympic Charter that we should all be free to pontificate on sports about which we know nothing. I don't really see why curling is not a mixed sport as men don't seem to have any great advantage (or disadvantage) over women. Of course, they could have fixed roles with the men chucking the stones (or whatever the technical term is) leaving the women to do the sweeping There is a mixed type of curling but involves only two curlers, 2 stones already set as a guard (non hammer team colour stone) just sitting outside the top of the house and one stone (hammer team colour stone) sitting just behind the centre of the button and each team play 6 stones per end, as opposed to the normal 8. They also play mixed (2 and 4 "man" teams) in their "ryder cup" equivalent of curling. Brilliant result for both GB curling teams, with GB women being so inconsistent throughout the 2 weeks it is amazing they got a bronze but much deserved!

GB's medal count looks set to end at 4, matching our best ever Winter Olympics performance. However, there is one more possible chance to break the record in 4-man bobsleigh. The crew start their campaign on Saturday, having been near the top of the timesheets in training and may have an outside chance of a medal.
