53. EVERYBODY (300 points)
Back to where it all began now, and this debut single of hers was actually released in late 1982 - over a year before her breakthrough hit 'Holiday'. Despite being a flop it is more popular now than a lot of her big hits, maybe because it has such an innocent charming feel and is just pure eighties disco pop heaven. It was a pleasant surprise when it was included on the 'Celebration' collection in 2009 over some of her massive hits, after not featuring on 'The Immaculate Collection'.

52. WHAT IT FEELS LIKE FOR A GIRL (307 points)
Girls can wear jeans And cut their hair short Wear shirts and boots 'Cause it's OK to be a boy But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading 'Cause you think that being a girl is degrading But secretly you'd love to know what it's like Wouldn't you What it feels like for a girl
Those opening lines are spoken by actress Charlotte Gainsbourg from the 1993 film, The Cement Garden. It's basically the essence of the entire song, which is probably Madonna's most feminist song to date... The fourth, and final unfortunately (as there were potential massive hits still on there) single to be taken from 'Music', it reached #7 in 2001.

51. CELEBRATION (311 points)
This was the celebratory dance-infused single released to tie in with the Greatest Hits album of the same name, released in 2009. It reached #3 in the U.K. and generally received positive reviews, with Radio 1 playing it several weeks before it's release - causing many fans to go and illegally download a leaked version which had appeared on the internet. It misses out on a Top 50 placing on this chart by a mere half a point (due to my own method of seperating tied positions).

50. AMERICAN LIFE (311 points)
And so we kick off the Top 50 with the title track from 'American Life'. It's #2 chart placing didn't stop critics and many fans from slagging off Maddie's rapping - with some calling it her worst single to date. I've always quite enjoyed it, and it must have its fans to beat many of her classic tracks.

49. GHOSTTOWN (328 points)
The highest placed track of 'Rebel Heart' - and indeed of the 2010's (tens, teenies - does it have a name?). Anyway, I am delighted to see some love for this as it is a great little track, despite only reaching #117 when released as the second official single from the album. It was originally released to iTunes in December 2014 along with several other tracks, to promote the album ahead of its release after songs from it being leaked on the internet. I can see this being one of those tracks that only gains in popularity over the years.

48. BAD GIRL (355 points)
This underrated gem was the third single from 'Erotica' and reached the underwhelming (for her at the time) position of #10. It remains popular with fans though, and has gained in popularity over the years.

47. NOTHING REALLY MATTERS (378 points)
This was the fifth and final single to be taken from 'Ray Of Light', reaching #7 in 1999. It's also her lowest placing single on this chart from that album, although I've only ever heard positive comments about it. Like 'Bad Girl' it never made the cut on either 'GHV2' or 'Celebration'.

46. GIVE IT 2 ME (379 points)
Featuring Pharrell on backing vocals, this energy filled club track was the second single from 'Hard Candy' and reached #7 in the charts. An obvious choice for a single at the time, it was a definite stand out from the album, although it has done better on here than I thought it would.

45. I'LL REMEMBER (399 points)
A largely forgotten 1994 Madonna single from the Soundtrack to the film 'With Honors', I'll Remember was moderately successful at the time, reaching #7 - which as a stand alone single, sandwiched between the 'Erotica' and 'Bedtime Stories' albums, wasn't that great for her... which was a shame as it's a gorgeous little ballad. It did gain a place on her 'Something To Remember' ballad collection the following year though. That said, it has gained a fairly respectable position here , with just one point short of 400.

44. BEDTIME STORY (414 points)
Co-written by Bjork for the 'Bedtime Stories' album, I'd say this was Madonna's most electronic song at the time and totally different to anything she'd done before it. I didn't think it was an obvious choice as a single, especially after the tender ballad 'Take A Bow' had just topped the U.S. chart for 7 weeks, and it did only reach as high as #42 there - but it did, however, reach #4 in the U.K.

43. JUMP (417 points)
The fourth single release from 'Confessions On A Dancefloor' is also the fourth highest placing on here (I'm spotting a bit of a pattern with certain albums!). 'Jump' is another club friendly, energetic, dance orientated track that is typical of the album, and it gave her yet another top ten hit in the U.K., reaching #9.

42. THIS USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND (431 points)
Madonna's first new material since the 2 new tracks from 'The Immaculate Collection' in late 1990 was this gorgeous ballad, the theme to the film 'A League Of Their Own' which she also starred in. Released as a single in 1992, it got as high as #3 in the charts, but inexplicably didn't make it onto either 'GHV2' or 'Celebration'. It did make it onto 'Something To Remember' though, which is the only album you'll find it on, as it's not even on the film soundtrack.

41. HOLLYWOOD (435 points)
Released in 2003 as the third single from 'American Life' (if you count the Bond song!), 'Hollywood' was another #2 hit in the U.K. but became the first single since 1983 to totally miss the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It's one of the more popular tracks from the album according to this chart, and it's easy to see why.

40. WHO'S THAT GIRL (456 points)
Possibly the first of Madge's signiature songs to appear on this countdown, Who's That Girl is obviously from the soundtrack to the film of the same name, and it became her fifth U.K. single when released in 1987. It is one a handful of tracks which was left off 'The Immaculate Collection' but later found its way onto 'Celebration'.

39. TRUE BLUE (477 points)
And now we come to the 1986 #1 title track from the Queen of Pop's third album release, and it's a track that she seems to have washed her hands of... Well I say that only because at the time it was probably the most glaring omission from 'The Immaculate Collection', and was left off 'Celebration' too. She did sing a new acoustic version during her 'Rebel heart' tour in 2015 so maybe that was an unfair comment I made earler... Anyway, it's pure eighties Madonna pop and I love it!

38. YOU'LL SEE (480 points)
You think that you are strong, but you are weak You'll see It takes more strength to cry, admit defeat I have truth on my side You only have deceit You'll see, somehow, someday
Released in 1995, this was the lead single from her collection of ballads - Something To Remember, named after a track from her 'I'm Breathless' album. The single reached #5 in the U.K. and has never appeared on any other album, despite being (in my opinion) one of the best things she ever put to record - it's always in my top 3 tracks (with Borderline & Oh Father - any of those 3 could be my favourite Madonna song at any given time). It finishes at #38 on this poll of polls, which goes to show that different people hear greatness in different things.

37. BURNING UP (492 points)
This disco inspired pop tune was Madonna's second ever single, released in 1983, and although it flopped it has remained a favourite among fans. She must have recognised this, as it was included on her 2009 'Celebration' Hits album, despite being left off 'The Immaculate Collection'.

36. RAIN (492 points)
'Rain' is another of Madge's forgotten gems from the nineties period. The fifth single to be taken from 'Erotica' it actually sold more than the previous two singles, although it did stall at #7 in the charts. You can also find it on the 'Something To Remember' collection, but not GHV2 or Celebration.

35. HUMAN NATURE (528 points)
Madonna's two-fingered salute to the critics who had panned her for being too sexually explicit, 'Human Nature' reached #8 in the U.K. after being released as the fourth and final single from 'Bedtime Stories'.
