RHCP were all around the place with this one on MTV Europe - it's been aired to death and that resulted in me growing a bit nervous and fed up with it but yes... it is a great song. Can't really spend a good word on the cover which got to no1 many years later. What a joke was that.

Seems like One is not going to get there although close. I'd prefer for it to grab a week or two but yes, the competition is strong. Out of the batch of newies there's bunch of memorable melodies present but I go for Roxette as it looks like anything they release from this album has a sizable hit potential. Very pleasant how the song goes.

Will be closely following the fate of U2 "One". Very close to best of all for me, if not the best. If I was compiling personal chart around this era that would have solid grip on no1 during this time.
Also, me and my peers were eagerly awaiting the follow-up single to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and it was a one hard to follow honestly. It came out very well though. This was good too, different, not so wild, more melancholic, smoothing. Still travel through time when I hear that griff at the beginning.

Crowded House with this song for me is an example of a perfect soft rock/pop in its very sense. I never get tired of it. Hope it does well in your chart! And glad to see Genesis there!

Shanice was a guilty pleasure of mine with this Smile song. I started following Billboard charts before I discovered UKTop 40 via MTV. Billboard chart was broadcast on my local radio every Sunday it was a massive 3hr show with all songs played plus some extras like bubbling under or no1 from a past on this day. Shanice used to be no1 on that chart around this time. Then I really got into UK charts on MTV, they put up a show but didn't play all songs (well, videos in fact) but still managed to play most of 40 entries in two hours.

Was kind of hoping Genesis could do it this week. I think it was a great gem and the video was funny too Collins making a fool of himself. It could be considered a novelty in a way. O loved the parent album it came off and all singles from it as well. Didn't know much about Genesis at that time, too young, but this was a very welcome return to form although very different from the 80s material not speaking about the early stuff they did with Gabriel.

I loved the video of Remember the Time. I have a soft spot for videos that tell a story and are shortfilms. This one set into the ancient Egypt was magnificent. Must have been one of the most expensive videos ever produced - with all those effects and the lineup of such folks like Eddie Murphy or Magic Johnson. And the beautiful Iman. What an extravagant piece but I liked it.

Kiss were great with this song. Really loved it a lot back at a time. My local radio station keeps playing it quite frequently and I don't mind. I think is perfectly built up record with astounding vocals. This is what I call rock pop music at its best.

Yeah, and forgot to mention U2 in 90's. For me the whole Achtung Baby era is just stunning followed by Zooropa and Pop. The streak fo me ends with Last Night On Earth.

I'd say the Kinks in 66/67 around Sunny Afternoon and Waterloo Sunset.

Still find it unbelievable Stan Ridgeway never charted in the US with Camouflage. It seems such obvious topic to do well there - Vietnam War. Or maybe the effect was adversary and it was not released on purpose?

I could agree "Spending My Time" is the best track on Joyride.

I have fond memories of this Prodigy song. Just about this time I started visiting dance venues and me and my friends were just crazy about this record. I remember we taped the video and tried to copy the foot step as being seen in that video through slow and stop motion. Then we went off on a night out and kept asking DJs to play it so we could show off our tribal dance. They were reluctant to put the record on because it was generally though to be a rather heavy rave stuff people wouldn't normally dance to - and they didn't. It was only like 4-5 of us stepping in the middle of the dancefloor enjoying our 3 minutes of total frenzy. I'd probably wouldn't want to see me doing that now, luckily, no cameras or mobile phones available sent this experience straight into the thrash-bin of personal histories:-)

I was sort of hoping to see Vienna, Tainted Love and Under Pressure there somewhere.

I really miss the commentaries. Not that I would agree with many of them but it was fun to read.
