Group E: Brazil open with a win that saw Marta become the all-time leading scorer in the finals, surpassing Germany's Birgit Prinz to move on to 15 World Cup goals. Team-mate Formiga became the oldest World Cup scorer of all-time at the age of 37.

After Germany dominated the first half, Norway fought back and equalised with a terrific 20-yard free-kick. Germany maintain the advantage in the group on goal difference.

Canada are top despite being held to a goalless draw by New Zealand. The match was suspended for half an hour early on due to lightning. After the resumption, New Zealand missed a penalty. China's fate was determined by an injury time goal for the second time in the tournament but this time the result went their way as they beat Holland to go 2nd.

In a brilliantly exciting game, Thailand picked up their first ever World Cup win with victory over the Ivory Coast, but the African side will wonder how they didn't take all three points, let alone one, missing chance after chance and hitting the woodwork at least four times.

Even more frustratingly for the Ivorians, Thailand's 3rd goal was offside.

England put themselves right back in the World Cup with victory over Mexico. Second half goals from Fran Kirby and Karen Carney put them 2-0 up before an injury time goal for Mexico ensured a nervous finish. However, the big result in the group was Colombia's win over France, which puts the Colombians top of the group and sends the strongly-fancied French down to 3rd.

Given France are likely to beat Mexico, and finish on 6 points, this means a draw with Colombia will leave England 3rd. Question is, will 4 points make them one of the best 3rd placed finishers ?

An expected win, but good to see Fran score Thought she had a great game. I was only saying to someone during the day that she doesn't tend to score scruffy goals and that she shouldn't be playing for Reading next season if they're not in WSL1, especially if she scores in the World Cup. Last night was only the start, there's more goals to come from her.

Almost certainly. Thailand are unlikely to get anything against Germany. If Sweden beat Australia, Australia would drop to 3rd with 3 points, and Nigeria must beat the USA to move off the bottom of that group. Given the way the draw is panning out, the best scenario would be a draw with Colombia and France drawing with Mexico to keep England 2nd, as that half of the draw looks much easier.

Routine wins for Germany and Norway put them through to the next round. Germany will play one of the third-place qualifiers. Norway will play the runners-up from England's group. Thailand finish 3rd but with a goal difference of -7, are highly unlikely to qualify unless Sweden and Nigeria both lose their final games and Spain and South Korea draw. 3rd place table: 1. Cameroon 2-3 (+5) 2. Netherlands 2-3 (0) 3. France 2-3 (-1) 4. Thailand 3-3 (-7) ------------------------ 5. Sweden 2-2 (0) 6. Spain 2-1 (-1)

Canada and China both progress, while Holland have a decent chance of qualifying with 4 points. Those results mean England will definitely go through with a score draw against Colombia. The position could become even clearer after tonight's games.
