Match 1, Ahmedabad: England 282-9 (50)Root 77; Henry 3-48 New Zealand 283-1 (36.2)Conway 152*, Ravindra 123*; Curran 1-47 New Zealand win by 9 wicketsPlayer of the match: Rachin Ravindra World champions England start their defence of the title with a heavy defeat against the team they beat in the final four years ago. Batting first after losing the toss, England's batsmen had a habit of getting out just after getting in. All 11 batsmen reached double figures - the first time such a feat has been achieved in a ODI - but tellingly, only Joe Root went on to make 50. 282 looked like a par score but after recovering from Will Young being caught behind for a golden duck, New Zealand laid waste to England's bowling with Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra both hitting centuries in an unbeaten stand of 273, reaching their target with over 13 overs to spare. New Zealand's next game is against Netherlands on Monday. England face Bangladesh on Tuesday.

Turns out the Channel 5 highlights aren't at 7pm every night. Some nights they're on at midnight or even later.

Netherlands were making solid progress towards their target but collapsed from 120-2 to 158-6 and once Bas de Leede was bowled by Mohammed Nawaz, the Dutch hopes were effectively over.

I watched the highlights of both the last games, and I was a bit puzzled by a video ref decision who seemed to think as the ball hit the pad and spiked meant it had also hit his bat and so he wasn't out, I wasn't convinced there was any bat at all, and it could have changed the game. South Africa were incredible and Sri Lanka gave it a good go!

However, India were in huge trouble at 2-3 with Rohit, Kishan and Shreyas all dismissed without scoring. But Virat Kohli and KL Rahul steered India out of danger and to an ultimately comfortable win.

And so it proved with Rohit Sharma blasting India to victory, becoming the first player to hit 7 World Cup centuries in the process. Virat Kohli saw India over the line as they reached their target with 15 overs to spare.

Match 10, Lucknow: South Africa 311-7 (50)de Kock 109, Markram 56; Maxwell 2-34, Starc 2-53 Australia 177 (40.5)Labuschagne 46; Rabada 3-33 South Africa win by 134 runsPlayer of the Match: Quinten de Kock 2 wins out of 2 for South Africa after Quinten de Kock became only the 2nd player to score back-to-back centuries in the first 2 games of a World Cup. The first was fellow South Africa AB de Villiers. Australia were in trouble early in their run chase and the game was up when Marcus Stoinis was dismissed in controversial circumstances (karma's a b****, lads) to leave the Aussies 70-6. It is Australia's heaviest ever World Cup defeat. Realistically, Australia need to win 6 of their last 7 games to progress to the semi-finals and they still have to play New Zealand, England and Pakistan.
