Wonder what the future of England ODI team will be after the numerous batting collapses in this World Cup.
Clearly there aren't enough ODIs being played and a lot of the recent focus put on T20s/The Hundred. When there are ODIs, it's rarely been a first team that plays.
You could argue both Test and ODIs teams need looking at. Bazball is entertaining but does make England very predictable in their play style.

Re. England. It feels to me like a glorious generation of cricketers is now reaching the end.
Stokes, Bairstow, Root, Buttler, Mooen and Rashid have all been magnificent players in short form cricket over the years, but maybe now is the time to focus on the less frantic 4- and 5-day games, where their experience and highly developed skills can really shine.
I don't think there needs to be a long and laboured post-mortem over this tournament. The England T20 and ODI squad have been world beaters in the recent past, but have just had a poor series. It's very different from the repeated failures of the hugely talented England football squads of the 2000s, or the dreadful Olympic medal hauls of the 1990s.

Updated table after today's match: 1. India 6-12 (+1.405) 2. South Africa 6-10 (+2.032) 3. New Zealand 6-8 (+1.232) 4. Australia 6-8 (+0.970) ----------------------------------- 5. Pakistan 7-6 (-0.024) 6. Afghanistan 6-6 (-0.718) 7. Sri Lanka 6-4 (-0.275) 8. Netherlands 6-4 (-1.277) 9. Bangladesh 7-2 (-1.446) 10. England 6-2 (-1.652) Bangladesh are the first team officially eliminated after their loss today. They've been a huge disappointment in this tournament. I thought this would be their time to kick on and move up to that next level of teams but I suspect there are some major issues behind the scenes. As for England, I think Pablo has got it right about the lack of 50-over cricket. What is frustrating about England is they are never able to excel in all three formats at the same time. They basically sacrificed being good at test cricket for several years to focus on winning the last World Cup and it just about paid off. Now the test side is decent again, the ODI team has suffered.

A valid point but Buttler hasn't been in the test side for years and it's hard to see him ever getting back in. Moeen and Rashid only want to play limited overs cricket. Stokes coming out of ODI retirement for this tournament was a mistake and caused unnecessary shuffling around of the squad, with Jason Roy the man to ultimately miss out after Brook had initially been omitted. Root probably should just concentrate on test cricket now though Bairstow I feel still has something to offer the ODI side.

I think Buttler should stay in the limited overs game, even if he does relinquishes the ODI captaincy as he's been a good performer with both bat and gloves in the limited overs game this year.
I mentioned the ODI team needs a look at, as ideally you need the right balance and mix between the aggressive batters and batters which have the patience to last 10-20 overs at least. Right now both T20 and Test to be fairly attacking in their batting style and probably one of the reasons why we haven't see the Test players shine in this tournament.
Ultimately I think there's too much cricket being played in the last few months, especially with The Hundred now being squeezed in.

An amazing game today as Afghanistan set Australia 292 to win and reduced them to 91-7, only for Glenn Maxwell to hit 201 not out, having survived two drops and a review, and lead his side to a 3-wicket victory.

A comfortable 160-run win for England against Netherlands today lifts them off the bottom and up to 7th. It keeps England in contention for qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which will consist of the top 8 teams at this World Cup.

You can win a Champions Trophy by coming 8th, makes the Champions League in the footy look sensible Great win though, but what has it come to when we say that when beating Netherlands! No talk of the Sri Lankan player being out timed out because of a faulty helmet, how sneaky to do that, as it's only happened 6 times before, and never very often on a big stage! And the guy that forgot his box wasn't timed out!

It's just a name. USA have been in the Champions Trophy before and they've never beaten a top tier side.

Thoroughly enjoyed the final today. Credit to Australia, completely silenced the crowd and handled the pressure superbly. Best team won!

So excited about this with a venue in Texas. As luck would have it I’m headed over to Scotland during the tournament. I hope to attend one match before I leave.

England begin a 5-test series in India in the early hours of the morning. England's last trip to India saw the home side win 3-1 after England had opened the series with a convincing win.
Given India's very strong record at home, just being competitive could be seen as a success for England, though winning a test should be the minimum expectation. That said, England are the only visiting team to win a test series in India in the last 20 years.
England have loaded the squad with spinners with Jack Leach returning after missing the Ashes and Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley and Shoaib Bashir also included, though the latter (who is of Pakistani descent) misses the opening test due to visa issues.
Harry Brook has returned home for personal reasons so Jonny Bairstow will play purely as a batter with Ben Foakes behind the stumps, while Ben Stokes is not expected to bowl. Dan Lawrence has been called up as a replacement for Brook. Mark Wood plays the first test as the sole fast bowler and is likely to be used in rotation with Jimmy Anderson and Ollie Robinson, with Gus Atkinson also in the squad as a backup.
For India, Virat Kohli will miss the first two tests for personal reasons.
England team for 1st test: Zak Crawley Ben Duckett Ollie Pope Joe Root Jonny Bairstow Ben Stokes (c) Ben Foakes (w) Rehan Ahmed Tom Hartley Mark Wood Jack Leach
Also in the squad: Dan Lawrence James Anderson Gus Atkinson Ollie Robinson Shoaib Bashir
1st test: Hyderabad (25-29 Jan) 2nd test: Visakhapatnam (2-6 Feb) 3rd test: Rajkot (15-19 Feb) 4th test: Ranchi (23-27 Feb) 5th test: Dharamsala (7-11 Mar)

England 215-8 at tea with Stokes unbeaten on 43. 7 of the 8 wickets have been taken by spinners. Hartley made a useful 23 on his debut, batting at 9.
