40 INXS - Never Tear Us Apart
More INXS and still 1 more to come I bet you all can guess which one, this was actually my wedding dance song lol straight choice I know hehe
39 Billy Joel - We Didn't Start the Fire
This song reminds me of my freshers week, it was my fave song at the time and it still's great
38 Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out
I don't know what I love about this song so much again its probably the production but its just a classic I dunno.
37 John Farnham - You're The Voice
Big voice great celtic feel and an amazing chorus, it took its time charting in the UK and was eventually a huge hit.
36 Run DMC Feat. Aerosmith - Walk This Way
OK there hasn't been any hiphop in this list really It don't mean I never liked 80s rap I liked a lot just there was little that could make my top 200 of the decade ie my top 20 songs of each year but this one does, needs know introduction, just brilliant stuff.
35 Stone Roses - She Bangs The Drums
The first song I heard by them and has a very special place in my heart, it was a very unique night when I heard that album for the 1st time and one I will not elaborate on as my wife may read this hehe
34 Peter Gabriel - In your eyes
UMm this wasn't a single in the UK but was huge in the US its from the film 'Say Anything' one of the best brat pack movies ever.
33 The Bangles - Eternal Flame
Umm see that special time mentioned above, this song was from then 2 another song that will always remind me of somebody and I spit on Atomic Kitten for spoiling its memory.
32 Heart - Alone
Absoluetly brilliant rock ballad and as a troubled teenager totally related to the lyrics I saw them live that year as well coulda been good but sh*tty no standing venue aaargh
31 Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
I didnt know this song when it was around I got into around 1987 when I got into New Order, incredible record and New Order have only surpassed the quality of this song once, that track is still to come again I bet you can guess wot it is?

whoo these ten all have something in common they were all US top 10 hits and they all did better in US or at least as good as they did in the UK. Three songs on the list I first heard on a show called 'No Limits' which basically governed my taste from 1986-1988 hehe Anyway here goes.. 30 down to 20.. 30 Toto - AfricaSoft rock classic US no1 and a huge hit in UK as well, just great stuff really. 29 Crowded House - Don't Dream It's OverOne of the 2 non US groups in this ten, First heard on 'No Limits' and then followed obessivelly its US chart progress on the Paul Gambacinni US chart show (glad we don't have a US chart show now as it would be dull, dull, dull). Anyway it was released in UK and took an age to make the top 40 and it only reached 28 or sumthin, absolutely shockin gawd it took Paul Young to get this song into the top 20 in the UK. Anyway after a couple of false starts Crowded House managed to establish themselves in the UK. 28 J. Geils Band - CenterfoldLOl I didn't really know what this song was about when it was out but I just loved it, this and a song to come were both around at the same time I loved them both, the follow up single 'Freeze Frame wasn't bad either. Oh and another US no1!! 27 Bryan Adams - Summer Of '69First appearance for Bryan with three of his song just missing the top 200, this didn't make the top 40 in UK but that had nothing to do with its quality just everybody already had the album by then, its a bit overplayed yeh but it remains his 2nd best single imo. 26 Bruce Hornsby The Range - Mandolin RainI warned earlier you'd see more of this band, this flopped as a single in Uk but was top 10 in US but it helped his album sell at least, this was played on 'No Limits' constantly 25 Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead or AliveHere we go the highest Bon Jovi song on the list, well it couldn't be any other could it, this great bit of country style rock is an absolute classic. 24 Lou Gramm - Midnight BlueWho? ? ? He was the lead singer in Foreigner, this was a US top 10 hit and played all over Atlantic 252 & Radio Luxembourg was in the Chart Show rock top 10 for seemed like months but never made the UK top 75, the charts were funny sometimes in the 80s. Since tho this song has crept up on many a rock compilation, it sends a chill down my spine hearing it now and I still can remember the video. 23 Heart - What About LoveLike the above song this was another 'No Limits' stalwart they hammered Heart to death until the Uk public eventually took notice with 'Alone' but this song and one still too come were both superior to 'Alone' and both had deserving re-issues in 1988. 22 Belinda Carlisle - Heaven is a Place on EarthWell this songs needs no introduction, Us & UK No1, fantastoic production and voice and that cleavage video aherm we all remember hehe, can't wait to hear it again but my 80s playlist is still on 26 hehe 21 Men At Work - Down UnderThis was the song out the same time as 'Centrefold' again US & UK no1, brilliant song and hilarious video even tho we didn't know wot a vegemite sandwich was? 20 Glass Tiger - SomedayUs top 10 follow up to the smash hit 'Don't forget me when your gone' this was critically abused on 'Round Table' radio 1s record review show, this doomed it. Every radio station played it but Radio 1, and the Chart Show hammered it but no top 40 success I still love this song so much it was arguably my fave song on 1987 but there's was so many good ones that year in fact 2 more 2 come. anyway top 20 thursday
